hi! would anyone be able to advise me on how to get a pharmacy job??? i have a BS in bio, and have been searching on monster.com, etc but no luck...pls help!!

Go into a pharmacy and ask! If the one you go to does not have a job opening, they will most likely know of someone who does. If they don't, they will know several people who you can contact to ask. I was just talking to someone at a local pharmacy and happened to mention that I was a pharmacy student and was immediately offered a job. It is not too tough, just get out there and ask around a bit.

I agree.. the only way to do this is to go door to door.. I got a phone book and wrote the addresses of all the pharmacies in my city (in areas I thought I wouldn't get shot) and started going around. I went into 5 pharmacies and filled out apps until one pharmacist told me that her friend was looking for techs in the pharmacy across town. I also had a BS in a biological sciences field. If you show up, look good, sound good and don't mind being turned down a few times your bound to find a position.

I agree. Get yourself out there! Make sure to fill out applications for them to keep on file if nothing's open and give them a copy of your resume. I got a Pharmacy Tech job by leaving an application on file with a place that wasn't hiring. A week later, a tech quit, and I got the job! Stay persistent and stay positive. Also, look online on hospital websites for tech postings. good luck. Most pharmacies don't advertise on monster except for pharmacist jobs. so hit the stores!!! Good luck.

do u think that calling parhamcies would be just as effective?? i feel a bit weird just going up to them and asking for a job

It's more effective to go in and ask for a job, then you can give them your resume and leave a positive impression. The pharmacist who hired me said I was hired because I was assertive. I was turned down... maybe 7-8 times before I found a job. Good luck =)

what kind of pay do you get as a pharm tech (w/o certification)

i went to yahoo.com, directory, typed in sav-on, entered my zip code, then called the nearest ones. press zero to connect to the pharmacy. ask to speak to the pharmacy manager. ask if they are hiring, and that you can start asap. tell them you're interested in becoming a pharmacist. you'll have a better chance of getting a job at a 24 hour pharmacy because they tend to hire a lot of staff, and people come and go like crazy. the pharmacy manager said to come in and fill out an application and give it to him, which i did, and got hired on the spot. good luck. as a pharmacy clerk, the pay is crap considering we have to put up with so much **** from impatient and rude customers, but its rewarding in the end. i just keep telling myself that. good luck.

If you mention that you're a pharm. student, you are more likely to be offered a nice pay somewhere around $16/hr.

lol.. in what universe?
some retails won't pay more than $8 per hour in upstate NY, unless your an intern

Hahaha, $16/hour? Are you kidding me?

I'm licensed as a technician and I get under $10 an hour, in California no less. Unless you're actually enrolled in pharmd school and licensed as an intern, there is NO way that you'll make more than like 8 dollars an hour in a retail pharmacy without being a licensed tech.

At least that's how it is here in CA.

well... as a pharm clerk... I used to get $11... that's because I had a degree and a lot of educational background... so... depends who hires you...

i have a bs degree from ucla and only make a paltry 7.55 an hour from sav-on after working there for one year. may i ask where you worked as a pharm clerk where you got $11?? the techs start at like $9. and first year intern is around 14.50. not that i'm bitter or anything...

same here. B.S neuroscience and I make a shade under 8 an hour...... don't get greedy and start looking for $11 or $16 an hour..your more likely to get hit by a truck or win the lottery than find that job... stop paying for cable, switch to genny light, and take the job for the experience, no matter what the pay.. hopefully it will pay off in the end when you're a pharmacist 🙂

I think it's different by state. In Florida I think the average intern (licensed Pharmacy student) makes $12/hr. That's for Walgreens and Eckerds. I'll be going the hospital route though so I probably won't see anything close to that.

CVS pays $10 for a 2nd year intern. You get a raise to $11 if you become a certified tech. I believe that you get another dollar during your 3rd year. This is for the Tampa Bay area. I'm sure the wage will vary by area in the state.

A friend of mine is a tech at Fred Meyer in Oregon and she makes a little over $15/hr right now. I think it really all depends on where you live.

Hi!

By working at both Retail and Hospital, I think Pharm Techs make more $$$ at Hospital than Retail and Pharmacists make more $$$ at Retail than Hospital.

Hi, i'm just curious, what are the average wages of pharmacists ( with a bsci ) down in the states ? specifically Washington.

Up here in BC, their yearly average wage is 50-60k/yr - taxes.

I'd also like to know how much Pharm D's make too...

Thanks =)

I work at a hospital in FL as a certified pharmacy technician, and I make more than that. 😉
