Does anyone have in any advise on how to properly write a personal statement, or where I can get some help on writing one? I have read some essay examples on the web and they sound alot more interesting than what I have so far. Should I throw some white lies in to make it sound better? It's funny because the truth it's making my paper SUCK!!!!

Do not make anything up by no means. Be truthful in your personal statement - a 100 %. If you get caught in your white lies - there is certainly going to be a HELL to pay. Plus - it's unfair to other applicants. I understand not everyone have saved african babies or lived through starvation in the foreign country - but your personal statement is suposed to tell what kind of person you are and why you want to go into pharmacy. Starting out by being a LIAR - is not good.

If you need help - do what I did. I wrote two very different personal statements - and had someone very close to me read both of them. I settled on one - and then went to a english tutor at my school to glance over it and point out any mistakes. I am sure there is a free tutoring center at your school - if you go there with some ideas they can help guide you in the right direction - make a plan that you can work on in order to write your statement.

I wrote about art in terms of pharmacy... but I doubt most of you wouldn't be able to pull it off (hell, I barely did). The key is to write something you are comfortable discussing in depth.

And I will break with the above poster and say that you are, within reason, free to embellish details to make it fit into the flow of your essay. For example, if you fed homeless in a poor part of town in the spring, feel free to play up its "poorness" and maybe mention it happened in late winter if it fits your timeline better. However, don't confuse the other side of town with sub saharan africa.
