Im in my like 3 semester of school, and i know pharmacy only needs calculus I for pre requiestses but i want to take all calculus classes just because incase pharmacy doesnt work out biomedical engineering degree i can fall back to do. Are the pre requiestes the same to mostly all colleges . Need a Pcat, etc... Do the people who read the admissions take into account, that i finished more then needed in math field, or i can speak 2 other languages other then english (ukrainian , russian)?

Thanks for an answer guys

With no intention of embarrassing you, I would suggest taking additional English
classes. I know several people that were denied admission because it was too difficult to understand them. On the same token, there are several people in my class that most people have difficulty understanding. As a pharmacist, you are the most accessible member of the health care team, people will rely on your judgment and clarity to guide them to better health. Not that I couldn't understand you, but it took some extra thought-power to do so; when someone is sick, they don't have that thought-power. Think about it..

My ideas weere just all over the place, thats why u had a hard time following i would reconsider for you then to even do pharmacy or drop out if u cant follow

Good grief...

Alright Knickerbocker, I have to say - you were right that time. This forum is suffering from an unusually large surplus of trolls. 🙂

Alot of people type informally online but are perfectly understandable in real life.

The additional math won't be a big factor in the admissions process. It's impact on your GPA will probably be the only thing that schools will take into account. Extra science courses may matter to some schools and some will help you to do better once you get to pharmacy school.

The idea of a "back up" plan is something that alot of people fall into too easily. There is nothing wrong with having alternate plans, but the rush that some people have to get on with their lives and get started can push them into things that aren't the best fit or that they don't really want to do. My advice is to take the time that you need to make an informed career decision - job shadow, do reasearch, etc. Find out what you love and then work on getting there. Don't interpret not being able to get there right away as a sign that you won't or can't get there. Often, people have to do a little personal or application delvelopment before they are ready to enter a professional program of any type.

side note: If you see people trolling the forums, please alert the mod staff using the report post button. They will review the user's history, check for IP matches, and keep an eye on them if they look suspicious.

Interestingly, to me, it's not that hard to read some posts with poor grammars and sentence structures, which were bombarded with the comments for the lack of language skills ... It might be because I am a non-native speak and used towrite and say that way in the past or even now... Therefore, my sense of awareness of grammatical errors is lessened.

th3instrument .. Your grades from math courses will be calculated into Science GPA for PharmCAS.
I think the science GPA calculated in pharmCAS is used as an admission criteria in many schools even if Cal II and III are not the prerequisites.

The fact that you are Russian only makes me question more why you are so rude - most Russians including myself cherish the fact that we were raised in a country where good manners are valued above anything.

Here are the answers to your questions:

Most schools at least in California - require more than one semester of calculus. If you do some basic research you will find out a lot of the applicants have a BS/BA degree usually biochemistry/chemistry or biology. That means those applicants take more than one semester of calculus to complete their degree.

Pre-reqs are not the same in all the colleges, they are mostly the same but can vary. For example some schools require only a year of intro biology, some genetics, cell biology, physiology on top of that. If you want to be sure you have to go to the web site of every school you want to apply to and compare the pre-reqs. We can't tell you exactly because we don't know which schools you want to apply to.

Speaking foreign languages is good - I speak Russian, French and English. I surely did put that into my application as it shows that I am trilingual and am able to communicate effectively with more than one group of people. I live in California, there is a large Russian speaking community here and speaking Russian has been a tremendous advantage for me so far in many aspects of my life.

Last, please be considerate and polite. The pharmacy student was giving you a great advice - taking additional English classes would not hurt but only help you. I can tell you are new to this forum and don't exactly know how application process works - trust me on this - you'll have to speak english beyond good in order to apply. Besides writing your personal statement - which is a pain as is - you'll have to write lengthy supp applications and good knowledge of english is crucial if you want make a great impression.

If you have any questions you can ask me, even in Russian if you want to. I am a senior graduating with Biochemistry/Chemistry degree next semester. I am also applying to pharmacy schools this year.

Actually, they have a point.

I've read stories about how people are writing high school and college papers in a way that is similar to how they communicate on their cell phones and on the Internet.

I don't expect perfection, as I make mistakes myself, but when someone is completely lazy and writes in such an awful manner, I really won't feel like helping them. Why should I use my time on them when they couldn't take an extra minute to write in a more respectful manner?

Pretty much everyone has to learn to type these days, so what is the excuse?

A guy who said it is a pharmacy student - so I wouldn't go as far as to call him a fool. He must have had enough brains to get himself into pharmacy school - isn't that something you as a PRE-PHARM aspire to do ?
Also he was trying to give good advice - and not saying it to be mean.

You can get 99 on the PCAT for all we care, but if you were to write your personal statement in such a thuggish HS-drop out manner, I can bet my life savings your application would make an excellent toilet paper for that adcom.
My mom's best friend is an adcom for one of the best (if not the best) medical schools in the country and I've heard way too many AMUSING stories about personal statements written in such manner.🙂😀

The best answer to the grammar question was on another thread:

Go check out the Pharmacy forum and take notice that people in there don't write like middle schoolers on a text-message binge. Even more appropriate to this thread, the non-native speakers aren't identifiable in their written word; it's only after they self-identify that others know that English isn't their first language. Those are actual pharmacy students and practicing pharmacists and other professionals.... the people you should be looking to emulate. English is hard, and if you struggle with it, you should take advantage of every opportunity to improve your English language skills..... including an internet forum and chatroom.

But go haid, act the fool...... evry1 looking 4 that last spot in skool wil b glad u did.

I completely agree.

Psssst...... here's a life hint. When you're applying for admission to a graduate or professional scool, you ARE graded on everything you do.

people on here don't give a crap how good or bad your english skills are...but if your particular post takes twice as long to read as a "normal" one, that's when people start getting annoyed and question your composition skills

if you want help at least try and use some commas or periods or something to seperate your ideas instead of lumping them into one gigantic sentence
