I'm sure that these questions are asked a hundred times but I know very little about pharmacy so I thought I'd see if anyone could help me out...

1. If my college is not associated with a pharmacy school can I do like some ppl and go for two years and get the pre-requisites and then apply to a Pharm.D. program?

2. What are the pre-requisites for pharmacy?

3. What kind of experience do I need to apply?

4. Is the PCAT similar to the MCAT?

5. What are the average GPA and PCAT scores that most applicants have? and what are good ones?

I know this is a lot to ask but I needed to know...Thanks for any help...

You can either get a BA at any accredited university or try to apply after you complete the pre-reqs. It is getting more difficult to get in without a BA, it depends on the school you’re applying to ex: it is nearly impossible to get in to California schools without a BA. For the reset of the information such as courses required or the average GPA, you need to look at the websites of pharmacy schools your interested in, since they all have different requirements. Getting some experience might also help you, such as volunteering at a pharmacy or even working at one. Good luck to you 🙂

Its probably best to pick a few schools and look at their specific requirements- they vary by state and type (public, private, etc). Im sure there is a school somewhere in your geographic location that has a college of pharmacy. Check it out online and look at the requirements to get a general idea.

It wouldn't hurt to ask to shadow a pharmacist to get a feel for what its all about at your local drugstore or hospital....... or you could even google.....

Or what 99% of SDNers are gonna say: SEARCH
aka the google custom search bar in the top right corner of the page. It has a plethora of info and personal advice!

Virtually everything you've asked is largely answerable by a simple Internet search, or even searching SDN alone.

You really shouldn't expect others to do your work for you. Show some sort of effort and ask a specific question and you are guaranteed to get better responses.

Do this: "I have looked into W, and it states X. Do you think this means I should do Y, given my Z situation?"

Not this: "Please give me information on A, B, and C, thanks."

In other words, do your homework in advance! There's really no excuse not to. You've got the Internet, telephone, and local contacts to do your research. You don't have to go miles and miles, but show at least some effort on your part and people will be much more willing to help.
