Hello, I am looking to apply to pharmacy school for the 2016 school year. I have 6 years experience as a pharmacy technician, I am also a graduate of a nuclear medicine technology program, and I have an associates of science. I am missing orgo 1&2, calculus and stats from the pre-req courses. I have a cGPA of 2.8 and a sGPA of 3.1. I am going to take orgo 1 and stats while studying the Kaplan review guide before taking the PCAT. So, would this be a competitive background? The schools I am looking into have an average 55-65 composite PCAT and a 3.2-3.4 cGPA. I lag in the GPA area, but I feel my experience is very good especially because I want to be a nuclear pharmacist. Any feedback would be great. Thanks!!

You can make up your gpa with a high pcat score. Also it will help if you can ace your other classes to demonstrate you can handle a rigorous program. Your science gpa is higher which is a good sign. Yes your experience is important but some schools don't place it too high. You are probably competitive but not guaranteed if you get an average pcat score.

I just got an interview invitation for the 2016 school year from the only school I have applied. I have pretty close to the same stats as you. 5 years experience as a CPhT. My PharmCAS science GPA is a 3.5, my cumulative is a 3.01. I have taken classes since 1999.....I am 34 years old now. If you trash all of my classes from my early (over 10 years ago), terrible years at college my cumulative GPA shoots above 3.7. I only scored in the 57 percentile on my PCAT. I am currently finishing up my Bachelors of Biology work at the Barrett Honors College at Arizona State University, where I help with research in the microbiology and developmental genetics lab. From the pharmacists that I have spoken with, they will look at your application as a whole. Sure, GPA and PCAT scores are important, but they want someone that jumps out at them, someone different. Good luck to you!
