Pharmacy School Admission

How to be a good candidate for pharmacy school? I know GPA is the most important elements to get in. Is research necessary if I have some volunteering done in the past year, but are those enough. I am not expecting to earn a bachelor degree but willing to take the PCAT.
Does PCAT require lots of work, and how is the test? hard, middle?
