I learned today that our class might be getting iPod touches loaded with Lexicomp this year or next, and I know some med schools require (and provide) students to use things like iPads or iPhones.

What are the other schools using along these lines? Anyone else getting a random iPod?

If you're getting an iPod, it's most likely included in your student fees.

Very funny. These schools sure know how to make some $$$$!!!!!!!!!!!

I know it's all included in the student fees. Just like our name tags and turning point clickers. 🙄

I just wanted to see if anyone else's school was mandating that students use tech like this.

Not required at my school, but definitely helpful and advised for 4th year rotations.

My school is providing tablet PCs for all students for SP1 year

university of florida requires iphone/ipod touch/ipad... although i wouldn't want to carry around an ipad on rotations.

stethoscope and sphygmomanometer...

Which was a pretty significant waste of cash considering my Pharm.D. degree...

I would take a license for lexicomplete though.

U of MN is doing iTouches w/Lexi this year.

At the beginning of our 3rd year at Ohio State (last year of classes before the 4th year which is 9 rotations), we each got a Palm preloaded with Lexi, part of our school fees.

Was great, because we used them at case conference for therapeutics 3rd year to get used to finding info quick, and last year (4th year) on my hospital rotations it was invaluable while on rounds.

During P1 year, we got a mandatory Dell Inspiron which was said to be a "good deal" at around $1400 added to our tuition. Yeah right! I could have probably got the same laptop for $600-$700. They also woundn't let us upgrade anything. I wanted to upgrade the RAM and video card.

FYI, iPod touches are pretty sweet.
