Good afternoon everyone,
I am new to this forum and have many questions:

For newly graduates: where do you see the future of pharmacy?
And generally what is the average for a pharmacist paying? I went to a pharmacy interview from a few days and they had different numbers than the one published in the (Best 10 health careers jobs)

And for pharmacy students:
I got accepted into CHSU and California northstate university. Any input on both schools?
Does the status of accreditation matters much? and how much debt usually graduates ended having

Sorry for the many questions, but I am a non-traditional student

1) Simple response is saturation and low pay is starting to take place. Hourly cuts exist and more prn and part time jobs are becoming more common.

2) Pharmacist pay depends on location and hours: While some still make 120k+ salary, that can easily be cut to 32 hour weeks with 80 - 95k salary. Keep in mind: Final Pay is different than take home pay (ie after taxes and investments).

Pharmacy Student Questions:

1) If its between both schools and both are fully accredited its simple: Go to the cheapest school (Tuition, Housing cost, etc).

2) Accreditation status matters 100%. If a program is pending regional accreditation or claims to be "Nationally" accredited, avoid the program like an incurable disease and never look back.

3) Average student debt varies. A majority on here claim $160k - $220k+ student loan debt. With refinancing, some are able to get around a 3.6% interest rating on the loans (give or take). Many are trying to put $3k - $4k a month toward their student debt in hopes to be debt free within the 5-7 year range depending on severity of the interest rate and final principle of debt.

Im also a fellow non-trad. My strong advice is unless you can graduate nearly debt free and willing to work in BFE rural yakitat - Alaska or farmland tornado alley Kansas (in other words, willing to move to ANY of the 50 states) I would leave pharmacy alone for the time being. Many graduates are getting hours cut or no job offer with loans and bills to pay. Unless you have a strong connection in a niche status, you are strongly advised to budget your income to debt ratio when choosing this field at this time.

Get in as an intern at a hospital asap. If you dont plan on pursuing a residency I would recommend applying for a tech/intern position at a smaller hospital. You will get to know your director and will have an in with them once you are done with school.
