I will be going to a local community college to complete prerequisites for pharmacy school next fall. I am currently a high school senior now. I need to know how many years typically does it take to complete all the prerequisites just for one pharmacy school?. I know each pharmacy school has different prerequisites so lets say I want to apply to 6-7 different schools how many years would it take do you think?. I was just reading through the CC course book and I am terrified that I will not pass the basic skill test and have to start from really low classes. Based on your experience how long did it take you to complete the prerequisites?.

It really depends. Generally, the pre-pharm coursework can be completed within two years, and then you can apply to pharmacy school directly. However, most people may choose to continue onwards w/ getting their bachelor's and apply before/during senior year. If the latter, then you can spread out your pre-reqs over the course of undergrad, if need be.

Theoretically, most schools' pre-reqs can be completed in 2 years. However, schools are adding on more pre-reqs and it does help to spread them out a bit more so you aren't overwhelmed and can get better grades. I think it is becoming more common to take 3 years. I would suggest researching what schools you think you want to apply to and their pre-reqs. Find out what classes you test into and then make a mock schedule of where you can fit each class into your semesters. Ideally, do this with a counselor because they can give you tips on what classes you need before you can take others and if certain classes are only offered during certain semesters.

Depending on which school you're looking in to, some schools will accept directly out of high school (0-6 years), like URI, one school is 1-5 (UMKC), and most are 2-4, although some now are accelerated 3 year schools. Theoretically, you could complete most school's pre-reqs in 2 years, but it's likely that you'll do it in 3 years, simply because of the demand of the courses and the grades you need to earn (B or better).

Its better to do your pre-reqs from a 4 year university than community college. GOOD LUCK!!!
