Pharmacy School Ranking

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Damn, USP went down.

What's this with UCSD being ranked so low? Isn't that a really good school (not UCSF but pretty good nonetheless)? And what about URI?

Before I wasn't convinced, but now I am convinced that they don't mean a thing when I see those 2 schools ranked below mine.

Guess I need to drop out of my substandard school now. After all, my PharmD will be worthless at graduation.

nova not even on there lol

That's because they wouldn't respond to their email requesting information!

😆😆

P.S. If Nova is reading this, I would like you to know that I am applying to your awesome school and if you guys decide you would like to accept me, then I could manage to live for 4 years in the Ft Lauderdale area. This post has been made in the name of good, clean fun.

University of Minnesota is ranked high...makes me feel even more discouraged about applying! 🙁

Pretty much every school Im am applying to is on this list. In fact I used it to select to which schools to apply.

I believe when they create this ranking list they also take into consideration, the location of the school. They actually factor in how much people love the city the school is located, and what sort of activities are in the city, the standard of living, weather, transportation, etc. This is one of the reasons why UCSF is always ranked so high. Not only is it a good school, but San Francisco is a nice place to live! I know people who have attended UCSF, for programs other than Pharmacy and LOVE the school.

well they say how they based the ranking system:

Above Rankings of schools based on subjective perception of the school, nih funding or number of publications is not qualitative ranking. The rankings should be based the score of the board exam and alumni status of graduates.

It sounds like they used bad grammar in that 2nd sentence.

Do people really care how high their school is ranked as long as it's accredited? I personally don't care, I just want an accredited PharmD degree and I'm good to go. I don't imagine that many employers would care so much either as long as you just had a degree. Maybe I'm wrong though.

The thing is that all these top notch schools offer a lot of combined degree programs and the others ( not on the list ) - not so much. I suppose if you just want a Pharm. D I don't see why it would matter, but if you are interested in pursuing further education it definitely plays a role.

exactly

Ummmm...I think every school that's fully accredited and chose to participate is on the list. It's just a question of how high on the list it is. I'm not 100% sure though, that's just my belief.

I'd presume UCSD isn't on it because it's still a very new program (correct me if I'm wrong), although I do hear their NAPLEX passing rates are at 100%.

Yeah UCSD is there, I just expected it to be in the top 10-15 considering how everyone says that it's a really good program and almost as good as UCSF.
Well, my point is that since it's a new program, they don't have enough information to base it on yet and give it the ranking it "deserves," so to speak. I could be entirely wrong, but that's just what I'm guessing.

Damn, VCU didn't make the list, nor did HU 😱 Sucks! I was going to apply to those two schools (decided against TSU in Houston and moved back to the east coast).

I guess I'll shoot for University of Maryland :dunno:

Do you all think what school you attend REALLY matters? As long as you obtain your PharmD???

I asked my Pharmacist what he thought about this, and he said he didn't think it mattered where you went as long as you got your degree. I don't think it does either, except in very competitive residencies (maybe?).

Nope. It's just bragging rights.
