So if you guys have read my previous thread then you know that I will be a re-applicant next cycle. This is my first time applying and my first rejection. I don't know what's planned for me in the future and if I will get in next year or not but I was talking to a recent friend about reapplying.

I told my friend (obviously this person is also a pre-pharmacy student) about how many attempts I don't care or how many cycles I have to go through to get into pharmacy school. In general were talking about 3-4 attempts. This person told me applying so many times and not getting in shows that you are a "failure."

I thought this was rude for this particular person to say this, but I am by no means an admission committee, but if I were to be on one I would say to me a re-applicant show determination, perseverance, and drive that you really want to be a pharmacist. I don't think being a re-applicant means a failure because it shows that you are not giving up, especially with the competition these days.

What do you guys think?

No, I don't think that it would show you are a failure at all! Two out of three of the students on the student panel at the school I interviewed at this year said that they did not get in their first time. I do think that if possible, you should contact the schools you are interested in and see what they would recommend you do to strengthen your application in the meantime. I think that as long as you can demonstrate to them that you are improving and not just reapplying every year with the same stats, it will show perserverance and dedication. Hope this helps!

Well do you mind sharing your stats with us? That way we can maybe give you some pointers as to where you can improve. As far as what your friend said about being a "failure", honestly that's just idiotic. Almost on a daily basis I hear many students give horrible advice and recommendations to other students that is either just wrong, or just stupid. I'll be glad to help offer some advice if you'd like, because I've been beent through the admissions process. I interviewed at three schools and was accepted to all three, and denied all my other interviews. My stats were not 3.5GPA 90+ PCAT either. Alot more goes into the admissions process than just those two factors, for most schools. So my thoughts? Your friend is an idiot, and you following your dream is the right choice, and will pay off in the end. Good luck to you!

I've applied 4-5 years in a row and finally hit 5 interviews this year. Perseverance and determination is the key. Don't give up and don't let what your friend say get under your skin. He/she is just another competitor. True friends will motivate you to do better, not kick you down even more when you're already down.

There will always be naysayers no matter what you try to do. Just be far beyond the influence of anything they have to say... and sure as hell don't try to argue with them about a point of view.

My school counts the interview heavily and gives you a certain amount of points. One of the categories is motivation. If you keep trying for three or four cycles, I heard that you get extra points for motivation. Maybe some schools won't like it but it isn't the case at every school. I would just make sure you keep improving your application. I don't understand those people who get rejected and reapply without making changes. Don't be like them or you could end up waiting through a lot of cycles.

You should punch your friend in the head.

If you reapply, good for you. Keep trying and improving what you can to make it in.

If you can't get in, it just means pharmacy isn't the right thing for you. A lot of people on here fail to understand that there are more fields of work other than pharmacy. There's a ton. I'm working at one right now as a matter of fact.

By no means does that make you a failure. Never put all your eggs in one basket and always have a backup plan. And get a new friend, that one sounds like a huge d-bag.

Total BS!

When I interviewed at the University of Tennessee they actually told us that 2nd time applicants are placed a little bit higher than first timers. You are not a failure if you do not get in the first time. They know this and want to judge you on what you have improved on since the first time.

Don't give up. Just pwn next year and impress them!

If by next year you have turned yourself into a better person than you are this year, then you can never be a failure. Keep working to improve your grades, get your pharmacy experience, volunteer, whatever just keep doing something that will mean you have a different personal statement and resume from this year.

I am a re-applicant. I was down when I got my first rejection, but I got off my ass and pushed myself harder than ever. It paid off and now here I am not even worried about the app process anymore. Good luck.

I didn't do so well last year when I applied because of pre-reqs and PCAT. I was rejected from all the 3 schools I applied, believe me this was a big bummer. This year I applied to six schools, interviewed at 5, and accepted at 5 schools. I'm not trying to brag, but I hope you can take what I went through and use it as an example. Use the entire year to work hard/reapply and you will see that "failure" will no longer be a part of your vocabulary.

I was a story just like you, didn't get in and was down. But i reapplied and look what happens, things worked out. So don't get down, without a doubt you'll get in somewhere next year. Just make sure to apply to many schools! Keep calm, no need to panic.
