Hey guys, I am actually a pre-dent but I have a friend who is interested in pharmacy. I hate to ask dumb questions because I know they can get annoying but I was just kind of wondering if there is a big gap in selectivity between schools as far as average gpa goes. I live in Michigan so I went to the Ferris State University's website to look at the pre-reqs and I checked out a couple other schools and some seemed to be a bit different. Is it pretty normal for different pharmacy schools to have different pre-reqs or are they all pretty similar? It also looked to me like there were different programs after being accepted into a pharmacy school, how exactly does that work or is it all the same thing?

Just how selective is pharmacy school? What would you consider an average competitive gpa would be? I understand averages range from school to school so I don't expect anything perfect. Also what are some schools with higher acceptance rates? I believe she is interested in leaving michigan so maybe some private colleges? Thanks for any help in advance!

Does she not have the internet or the ability to research online on her own? It is nice of you to look for her but if she is serious about getting into pharmacy school, you think she would show some initiative and research on her own to find out the answers quickly and directly...

All that info can be found in the FAQ section. Average GPA across the board is probably 3.5-3.6. Schools are all getting more competitive, newer schools are less competitive due to lack of accreditation.

Let this be a lesson to you Burgler, if you are trying to help out a friend--this board is not the place ask.

The prereqs are not always the same and you would have to check the schools you want to apply at to see what their specific prereqs are.

I think the point is a valid one. You should encourage your friend to register and poke around beacuse there is a lot of great information on here, though some of it can get lost in the translation if the interested applicant isn't the one reviewing it.

why are you doing the research for her? is she a vegetable?

ive been around these forums enough to not care about what other people say. A reason I asked those questions is because she asks me for a lot of advice with things and it is nice to have knowledge of different fields. Sure she can do the research on her own but it is nice to be able to tell her what I think about things or what she should be shooting for. The reason I was asking because she was looking up things on pharmacy and found it interesting, I thought I'd help her out a bit and give her my 2 cents about what I thought.

I don't know anything about dental school admissions but I can say that pharmacy school is getting increasingly selective with a greater pool of people who'll build up to their Bachelors degree but competition is less than med school if that helps.

Average GPAs range from 3.4 to 3.7. For schools that take the PCAT, the range is in between 70-90 for the majority of the schools with the bulk of averages being in between 75 and 85. Applications per school vary but many schools are getting more than 1,000 applications now for around 100 seats.

I wouldn't say that there are "easy" schools to get into, but just ones that are off the "beaten path" that are newly accredited and unknown by many. These schools will have fewer of those 3.9s by default. They won't take just anyone though.

Well I'd like to thank everyone for the serious answers! Helped clear some things up, I never realized pharmacy school was about on the same grounds as dental school and med school in terms of competitiveness! Good luck to everyone in getting accepted!

I'm glad you see it my way.
