My true dream is to become a pharmacist. Right now, i was wondering if your amazing at chem but really suck at bio (b- range)
with like a 3.4 GPA, is it still possible to get into pharmacy school?
Any tips to give a sophomore?

BTW do they look at APs, Honors, etc?

Do they look at history H?

Yes you can still do it, but it would be better to get your grades up in bio as Cs are really the minimum you can get. You have a lot of time yet so I would suggest figuring out why you are struggling with the class. Is it the amount of memorization, you're bored with the material, do you struggle with test taking, etc? Everyone has strengths and weaknesses, so you will just have to work harder for subjects that don't come as easy.

Pharmacy schools don't look at your high school grades unless you received AP credit for a class in college. Then they will want a copy of your AP scores. One exception is if you apply to a 0+6 pharmacy school, which will base your acceptance on your high school grades. These schools differ in that if you meet certain criteria in your pre-requisites, you are guaranteed a spot in their pharm class. Most pharmacy schools are set-up where you do pre-reqs at the college level (2-3 years) and then apply to pharmacy school, so they don't look at your high school transcripts. Honors and AP classes are definitely good for helping you get into college and preparing you better. They would also help if you decide to apply to a 0-6 school.

Take as many APs as you can, this will help you with college period. Dont worry as much about getting into pharmacy as much as getting into a college that will enable you to reach your dream of becoming a pharmacist. For now in highschool, try to take all Honors and AP courses. Your only a sophomore, you have time to improve your bio, you can even improve it in the summer or something. Focus on things that will help you get into a good school, mainly.

Yes, a person with a 3.4 GPA in COLLEGE can get into pharmacy school though other factors apply.

Colleges look at all highschool grades, probably not many pharmacy schools or perhaps many, look at highschool grades, but either way it has small amount of weight.

There's a general misconception that pharmacy school is mostly chemistry, but its not. Biology/physiology are about 100000x more important in pharmacy school. The only difficult chemistry is medicinal chem, but most people in my school at least just pushed through the pain with that. You should take a look at the pre-pharm section, there's a lot of info there.

well I sorta suck at bio, but am doing fine in chem

I hope i can improve in bio
However, i wouldn't be able to take any science AP classes due to my C+ in bio and im in chem regular so they only take honors students

IMO you're putting too much weight on your high school grades. Your undergrad will care about your HS grades, but I doubt that pharmacy school will care. Just focus on doing well in your undergrad.

Are you focusing on a very competative college(s)? Because most undergrads are perfectly happy to accept people with no AP/honors classes.

Are you saying a student with a 4.0 gpa (no AP's) and a 2250 SAT score + good personal statements LORS and a variety of extra curricular activities cannot go to an IVY league because his or her school does NOT offer AP classes to begin with?

Keep in mind not all schools have AP, and there are some schools that only have less than 4 or 5.

Its not the students fault. Also, you can take honors classes, they matter as well. Though AP classes look nice i dont feel its necessary. I know many people who took the AP classes but didnt take the AP test, and still were able to get into good schools.

Couple of points...

I failed high school chemistry. Outright failed. Didn't care about because I didn't need it to graduate and of course I was never going to use the stuff in "real life." Graduated with a 2.8 GPA or something like that..

Long story short I later decided to go in to pharmacy. I started at the lowest levels at my community college and worked very hard and finished my prereqs with a 3.8GPA. Worked well since some of the lower classes counted as electives. Now as I'm typing this I'm now sitting in UCHSC lecture for adrenergic transmitter mechanisms...

I don't think that HS achievement make any difference in pharmacy school application. It may actually make it harder if you take honors or APs for college credit. I know that none of the schools I applied to would take AP or CLEP as credit for course completion as prerequisites so you would have to retake them anyway.

When it comes time for pharmacy application what they are going to look at is the time you have spent in college. They want to know whow well you handle the workload when it isn't mandatory (like it is in highschool) as a way to form an opinion on your priorities.

Agree with pretty much everything. However, you mention taking all Honors/AP which is fine if you can handle it (I can), but I just don't want the OP killing himself because that is a rigorous course load. This only reason I agree is because if you can get into some science AP's, that will def. lay a great foundation for Undergrad and you can use the AP credit for college/med school. I can't because I screwed up in the beginning of HS but the OP seems to have good grades so he should be able to take them next year or senior year. 👍

And OP, don't worry about not getting straight A's, just try to make sure that in the majority of your classes you get A's, with maybe a couple B's. Try not to get C's because C's aren't good enough.

You probably don't... most of the kids apply are going to have 4.0s or 4+, and shadowing hours and volunteer time already. You can cross that bridge when you get there though... you're still a sophomore right?

If you want to be the least bit competitive though you need to seriously bring your grades up, take some AP courses, and have some stellar ECs. A good ACT/SAT score couldn't hurt either.

Yes, you can get accepted w/out AP science credits - most schools would not accept the AP credits for their pre-pharm prerequisites anyway. Not sure about non-honors level - maybe a talk with your guidance counselor is in order there.

Your gpa, class rank, and ACT/SAT scores are extremely important to the 0-6 schools - focus on being as high as you can be, like over 1300, if you're looking at Rutgers, St Johns, or URI. With USP, MCPHS you could be okay a bit lower (1150+) on SAT's. Merit money is always score dependent! Number of EC's seem less important to many of the 0-6's, pick one or two that you like, but shadowing in a pharmacy or health profession is a plus and gives you something relevant to write an essay on!

It's also worth taking a look at the 2+4 programs with early assurance (aka guaranteed seat). You'll get a much better selection of schools, and a place to land if you decide that pharmacy isn't your calling after a year or two!

I wish I can go back into time and done this.
I went to get my business degree, and got it for 4 years, and not much to show for it...
Go to the 0-6 program and be a pharmacist when you are only 24 years young, you don't have to worry about applying to pharm school later, and most pharm school accept students with 4 years bachelor, so it would be much faster to do it with a 0-6 program...
