Can anyone let me know how pharmacy school is on a daily basis? How long is a typical day? Do you have to study A LOT? Are the classes really really hard? Are you enjoying it, or wish you went into another health career?

any advice is greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Pharmacy school sucked. It is tedious, long days, long classes, and stupid group work. Pharmacy school sucked. Rotations were good. but the class work sucked big time. I never studied until the night before. But it sucked.

That's because you never learned to skip classes to go play golf...I mean tennis...

haha, my 2nd year, 2nd semester is when i started skipping class! I would go play tennis all morning and pass out by 4 pm! I loved those times. I miss those times.

ditto...
i studied, but not 'til the night before. i wasn't really hung up on grades; if i did well enough to pass the test and felt like i had a good enough grasp on the subject not to kill a patient....good enough for me.

the tests were worthless anyway. pharmacy school sucked.

rotations were awesome....that's where the real learning kicks in.

yay, someone agreed with me:laugh:

i don't have to study a lot, but my average is only B/C...factoring work, hanging out with people, drinking, etc...time management for me is much harder than the actual schoolwork.

i wish people in my pharmacy class felt the same way...

I rarely ever went to class and I mean rarely. Med chem and Pcol I probabley made about 3 appearances the entire year. I studied 3 days hardcore before every exam and it always seemed to be enough. Final GPA was about a b/b+ average.

Sometimes I feel guilty for being in pharmacy school, because other people, including my friends, can't get in. I have one pet peeve with people at school- they lie about grades. I figured this out after looking at the dean's list(3.3+GPA for the semester). All of those people who were suppose to have 4.0GPA's weren't on the list :meanie:. The competition just never seems to stop, even after you get in. I always think, we'll all have PharmDs when we get out so what's the point in lying.

i was also warned the same thing by a p4 student. he told me that "it's going to be like high school all over again" since the class is fairly small (125 students) everyone is going to know each other and he says they are all very competitive..... hm well I start this fall, so i guess i'll see for myself. I'm not going to lie, i'm probably going to be one of the really competitive ones anyway 😛

Honest piece of advice:

The hardcore gunners are not respected for their intense committment to academia. In fact, quite the opposite. You'll do much more for yourself in the big picture if you're friendly and aren't out to "BEAT" your classmates.

I found my P1 year to be a lot like high school in the social sense, but not so much in the academic sense. In the academic side, I felt like my classmates were really supportive and did a lot of things to help out their fellow students and friends. Hopefully that won't change this year.
