I am thinking of taking online course for a pharmacy tech.My question is are the online course's good?Penn Foster Career School is the one I am thinking of.Will I be able to find a job with getting my pharmacy tech cert. thru Penn Foster? This is the only way(online) for me to train for something.I'm 34 and would like something different to do but am not ready to go to college. Is a Pharmacy Tech. a good choice? Are they in demand?Do you think they will stay in demand?Do you think the online programs are just as good?Thank You

I would recommend getting a pharmacy technician prep book, it will be much cheaper and prepare you just as well. Courses are a waste in my opinion. Check with your state laws though, I'm in Florida and we might be tested on different information then say someone from California.

As for the demand, retail pays just okay, if you want to transfer full time careers your best bet would be to work for a hospital as they pay better and the schedule might be more steady. In retail you tend to work around everyone else's schedule.

Good luck.

I passed the exam not too long ago. As Zyvox wrote, I recommend using prep books. I borrowed two books from my friend and studied intensely for 2 weeks. I know a couple of people who took classes at a community college and they passed it as well. It just depends on how well you study.

Best of luck!

has anyone ever run into problems obtaining the pharm tech lincense in California or other state because of previous misdemeanors? Thank. Please advise.

I knew one person who had a prior conviction when she was a teenager. She had to appeal to the state board of pharmacy for her license and they eventually put her on probation. She was convicted of theft which I'm sure was a misdemeanor.

So you can actually just take the test and get certified without actually having to go through a course (online or offline)?

Yes, all you need to get certified is pass the test. Most people don't bother going through the course.

That sounds great. Would any of you recommend a particular prep book to use?

I studied using Mosby's, which is pretty good -- has lots of practice calculation questions. Passed the PTCB in Dec.
