Hey, I have a question for the pharmacy technicians on here (it might be kind of weird): how does the scheduling of which days you work operate? The business I am employed with currently (which is a restaurant) allows me to send in the schedule that I would like (which days I work and how many hours) if I ever want to change it, and I am also allowed to request days off if needed (as long as I give them time beforehand). I'm curious if working as a pharmacy technician is generally the same in relation to that. Is the scheduling process as versatile as mine is now, or do you get only one schedule once you're hired, and you MUST stay with that schedule? Because now, I'm planning to change my schedule at my restaurant job so that I work a LOT, I'm wondering if I'd be able to do that at a pharmacy.

I've been working in retail pharmacy as a technician for about three years while attending college and have been able to basically do the same thing. Although the pharmacy I work in was under a company that emphasized flexibility and we also had a very large tech pool for coverage.

I'm not too sure on how hospital pharmacies handle this. You may also want to look into being a per diem tech depending on how many hours a week you're seeking.

Depends where you work and who writes the schedule.
At my CVS, you just say when you can work and they schedule around it.

At my hospital, full time techs have 1 day off and every other weekend (schedule does not change). Plenty of opportunities for OT if you want though. Prn can just give when they can work (but are not guaranteed hours). This is different than some other places where prn gets called in (not told ahead of time). So it depends.
