If I was charged with an alcohol violation my freshman year, and a smoking violation my junior year (tobacco-free campus), should I include this in the academic or professional misconduct section? It is surely on my permanent record, and schools will have access to this information. I just do not know if the violations are severe enough to include?

I think academic misconduct is more in the realm of cheating, plagiarizing, etc. whereas professional misconduct is more of what you're looking for in regards to breaking rules and etc. I'm not 100% sure about this, but doing a quick google search brought up a few definitions.
Definitely include them. If they're going to see it on your permanent record, but you don't voluntarily give them the information on your application it could raise some eyebrows.

Thanks for the quick response. I included them just to be safe. Submitted the app, bow I just wait.
