Two of my recs have been received and I am waiting on the third but PharmCAS has already mailed my app. Will they send the third rec when it is received?

Good question. I'm in the same exact situation. Everything out but one LOR.

Will schools go over everything else in the meantime?
 
PharmCas policy is NOT to hold your application for a missing LOR. They will go ahead and send your application materials to your schools, and when the straggler LOR arrives, the will forward it on to the schools. Schools that use PharmCas should be aware of this. I wouldn't worry too much. Email the school with the question if it bothers you. Or call them.
 
Hey everyone,

I'm doing my PharmCAS application and I was wondering how far back did everyone go back in their volunteering experiences. I'm going into my junior year of university, so is it bad if I put a couple of volunteering activities that I did in my last year of high school, ie/ volunteering at a grade school four days a week, and tutoring students in math in my highschool? I don't have an endless list of volunteering activities, so I was thinking about putting these last two down to top my list off at 10.

Right now I only have 1 reference in pharmcas. I'll probably be able to get 2 by the end of this week, but both are pharmacists that i work with. I still need one from a professor, but I won't be able to get that one for at least another 2 weeks when classes start again.

Is there any reason e-submit now or would it be just the same if I did in a couple weeks? I thought I read that PharmCAS doesn't send your application to the schools until you have at least 2 references.
 
It is only Mid-August. Waiting for 2 more weeks is not a big deal.

These applications are making me so nervous. I'm trying to do as much research as I can. The more I find out the more worried I get about acceptance. I'll be glad when I have the applications done. Then at least that part will be over.
 
Some of the PharmCAS schools I'm applying to ask for PCAT to be sent directly to them. If they are on PharmCAS, why are they asking for direct score reports or this is a mistake? I thought that if you specified the PharmCAS code when you register for the PCAT you are covered for ALL the PharmCAS schools you are applying to.

did you already submit your application? I have my 3 references (kind of). Two of them say 'pending' on pharmcas and the other says 'incomplete'. Does anyone know if it says incomplete because I have yet to e-submit? I'm still working on my personal statement.

Is this true? I thought I read that it doesn't matter if your LORs are in, but as long as you have at least 2 references entered into the system, then your applications will be sent out?

I might be wrong? Somebody please confirm?
 
Once the reference has been e-submitted, the status will say "Received". It says "Incomplete" if the reference has been started, but not submitted. It says "Pending" if your reference has never logged onto the system.

I have 2 recs so far, but my application was already sent out to all of the schools I'm applying to.

I'm guessing they'll send out the third when they receive it.

My understanding is that they don't wait on your LORs, period. They just send them as they get them.
 
So my boss did the electronic LOR today for my PharmCAS application, and now in the status part it says "incomplete" next to his name... does this mean it just needs to be processed ny PharmCAS, or that he didn't finish it? 😕 Anyone know what this means?

The other two slackers haven't done theirs yet, I guess, because they still show as "pending."


What does it say when they are complete/recieved, just so I know?

"incomplete" just means your boss logged on and started typing it w/o submitting. That's actually a good sign. It means they're probably writing a lot in your favor. Give it a few days and it should change to "received". 👍
 
"incomplete" means the LOR wasn't finished. How do I know? One of my teachers notified me that she had finished the e-LOR and submitted it. The status was "incomplete" for a week. I contacted PharmCAS and they told me the LOR had a deficiency (they couldn't tell me what). I told my teacher, but she could not log back on. 😕 She became frustrated and told me to just send the paper form so she can mail it. 🙁

one of the three references must do a type-written letter like exercise that must be mailed to pharmcas. i waited on one for over a month!

Where does it say that on PharmCAS? Does it pick one of the three randomly?
 
I e-submitted my pharmcas application as of Aug 31,2005. I checked under designations and it said the print out hasnt been mailed to my desire schools. Should I be worry?

Don't worry. The schools you submitted to can view your application at any time online and PharmCAS will send a hard copy of your application out -- probably by mid month. I e-submitted mine on July 31 and it was sent August 17. Congrats on getting it done! It's a really, really good feeling to have it in. 🙂

Not to knock what the earlier post said but all three of my LORs were done electronically. you had the option of doing it this way or by 'paper.' WhenI checked on their status, one did say 'incomplete' because my prof. wasnt done with it. when he did send it; it said 'received.' i didnt see anything saying one HAS to be a paper rec. or anything like that. I could be wrong... 😕

Same here. All three of mine were electronic.

Paper applications are only needed by certain schools that specify it.
 
Does anyone know how the Pharmcas LOR work? Is it just a form they fill out, or do they have to write an actual letter and submit it? If it's a form, does anyone know what exactly is asked? Thanks.
 
The people you ask to recommend you can do one of two things. They can opt to send in a hard copy of the form or they can fill it out online. I added a fake reference into PharmCAS last night to see what the form looked like. (Don't worry, I deleted it. 🙂 )

The form has three parts. The first is for their contact information. The second is survey asking the recommender to give a ranking on several things - how good is this person's hygiene? - excellent, good, fair, not-so-good, stinky. Another question was "how would you rate this person's intellectual capacity? (or something like that). The next section is where the recommender can enter their actual letter of recommendation.

what does a typical letter of recommendation consist of? how long is it ? i am just wondering if it is a big hassle for the person to do.
 
Does PharmCAS group all the science course (Bio,Chem,Physics) and other science (engineering, computer science, etc.) into a single "science" GPA or are they grouped separately?

I understand the Math GPA is designated separately.

The PharmCAS Science GPA consists of all natural and physical sciences (i.e., biology, anatomy, chemistry, organic chemistry, etc.) and engineering courses (which really sucks for engineers)! Computer Science courses are not included in the Science GPA.

I submitted mine maybe mid August and it still says printout not mailed.
 
ditto...i e-submitted July 25th and they sent everything out sept.1 I had to email and call them several times b4 they actually did anything 😡
 
don't worry people! it takes pharmcas about 3-4 weeks for them to send it out to your schools. the reason for this is because they have to look over your transcripts to make sure that you listed all the courses you took, and to calculate your science and overall gpas.

If the person is a good reference, then I do not believe that it is a hassle for the person to do. Most professors have been around long enough and expect their students to ask them for recommendations. I would advise you to ask your references way in advance for the LOR. Some of them have a lot of LOR's to complete, so asking them in advance helps. Plus it shows them that you dont wait until the last minute to do things.

My references were happy to do the recommendation for me.

I finally asked my Chemistry Professor to do my LOR. She had no problem with it. She also completed the reference the same day the email was sent to her. The Pharmacists I asked haven't even started theirs yet.

Well just politely remind the pharmacist. However if that doesnt work, just let them know that you need it done. If push comes to shove, just ask someone else to do it.
Hope all goes well, I am so glad all of my LORs are finally done. YEAH!!!!!!!!
 
I can't figure out how to indent my paragraphs on the pharmcas personal statement section. All I can do is put a line of space between paragraphs, but without the indentations, the essay looks weird.

Is there a way to indent paragraphs on pharmcas or is it not that important? 😕

That's exactly what I did... no indent at the paragraph start (to save characters) and used a line space between paragraphs. You'd think they'd have a better system 🙄

I called them when I submitted because it got me PO'd. If it's indented as you copied it into PharmCAS, then the school will get it like that.

In other words, what you see is not what you get.
 
Is there a limit to the amount of characters the statement can be?

Most people I have spoke with say to make the statement about 500 words.

4500 characters, including spaces
 
I've been waiting for my PharmCAS gpa's to be calculated and its taking forever! Anybody else having the same problem? I turned it in about 3 weeks ago and yes, i know they say up to 5 weeks but dayam - they really gonna take all 5 weeks??!?! If you're having the same problem - holla at me!
 
omg i'm waiting right now too! some schools have said they have received my supplementals but haven't received my pharmcas yet.

do you guys know if pharmcas ships out the application once the GPA is calculateD?
 
I'm sure it will take "all 5 weeks." PharmCAS is very controversial to me because I think they receive the same info the schools receive but you ALSO have to pay them to do their little formatting things to it. YES, I understand they make the info very "nice" for the schools to review but still...

who thinks the entire application process is rigged?? 😕
 
Personally, I don't think it's too bad. Yeah, waiting for them to process sucks, but I would rather do 1 big application that will work for many schools, than do 10 separate applications that ask for the same thing. They might as well consolidate the process. I wish all the schools used PharmCAS, like the med schools do with AMCAS.
 
I don't mind Pharmcas I just wish some schools didn't require you to send LOR's seperate.
 
I turned in my PharmCAS on Aug 28th, and I received my GPA calculations early this week (9/12).

Also, although schools can look at your PharmCAS app on-line I think that some actually wait to look at your application until they receive a print-out from PharmCAS. I got in touch with Creighton and they said that they don't look at your application until it is sent to them by mail.
 
ugh i'm in the same boat... submitted aug. 31 and it's still processing 😡
