If I am holding a BPharm degree, do i need to undergo the pre pharmacy 2 years course if i am interested to further my education in PharmD? or i could just start of with the 1st year of the 4 years professional degree program? by the way, Im not from Unites States.

2) do US university offer financial aid/scholarship to international students who wish to enrol into the PharmD program?

any ideas or suggestion?

If you are holding a U.S. BPharm, I know there are some PharmD CCO programs. They will allow a BPharm holder to get a PharmD fairly quickly. I'm not quite sure about foreign BPharms. To practice, you'll have to get the PharmD.
International students do not qualify for federal financial aid. To qualify, you have to be a permanent U.S. resident or U.S. citizen.

For CA.....you have to have your education documented. Which means you have to submit not just transcripts, but documentation of what the courses entailed.

Then, you have to take the foreign language qualifying examination....

Then you have to apply to pharmacy schools and have them accept your documentation.

Do you by any chance have a pharmcy license from another country? That would make things much, much easier.

Good luck...you need to start with the state board of pharmcy you are interested in.

Hey,...........i think we are in the same boat!

I also hold a B.Pharm, but currently practicing in my home country!

I will be leaving soon!

If you graduated after jan 2003, you can practice in the us. All u need is to Pass The FPGE, Naplex and the state Board exams!!

However, for those who Graduated after Jan 2003, we have one option!

To get the Non- Traditional PharmD. This is a 2.5-3 year program, depending on the institution you are attending. After this, u can now sit for the Naplex and State Board exams before liceinsure. Currently, most Universities have phased out the program, i think due to the high costs of running it compared to the few student.

Others offer the program to only practicing B.S pharmacist in the U.S and Canada. So if you are not, they can take u up!

There are however, two Universities that i know of. They offer such programs
to international students, who are practicing in their home countries. If you arent practicing, it may be hard.

The two are:

and

http://www.westernu.edu/xp/edu/pharmacy/mcpp_about.xml

I hope this would answer your questions!!

For financial, aid........hahhh

am abit stuck!

You must be a citizen or a permanent resident to get any form of financial aid.

For Federal loans......you must be a citizen,

For insititution loans, you mus be a permanent resident with a good Credit history! However, if you have a relative or any person who can co-sign for you, there are many institutions which are willing to offer up to $100,000 in loans.

Hey u do have email so we can talk more??

my main concern now is to further my studies in PharmD.
So basically i no need to take up the pre pharmacy course if i am holding a BPharm degree.
financial is also my main concern. no financial aid? wat bout loans?

You should be able to get private loans-it depends on your financial situation, credit history, where you are from (UK/Can would probably be more likely than say a small S.American country, simply because more people bank internationally that way)

I'm not explaining it very well, sorry.

You won't be able to get "financial aid" like the US students talk about (the federal loans etc) but you might qualify for some scholarships or grants, or the private loans.

you should also try

http://www.midwestern.edu/ccp/

however, i know they are phasing out their nontraditional PharmD program due to low enrollment. i think that this year or next year is the last time it will be offered!

good luck!

i don't think you'll have to redo all of the curriculum again as you have a BS and there are specific programs to assist you w/getting your pharmD quickly.

good luck!

Most of these programs are very expensive. I hope you have the cash for it. IMO, unless the company you're working for will pay you more, there really is no need to upgrade your degree.

But if you intend to do clinical work or even research, then go for it.

My university, UIC, used to have a BPharm to PharmD program, but they decided to drop it because there was only a couple of people in it. The cost of running the program for so few people wasn't worth it. The program did last for about 20 years. Most of the program was, by the end, done online.

hey just wondering, are holders of a BPharm from outside of the US (ie graduated after Jan 2003) qualified to take the FPGEE without enrolling in a Pharm.D? Because you need a 5-year pharmacy program but since BPharm is a 4 year degree could you make it up to 5 years with a pre-registration year or a year of post graduate study? I've contacted NABP but they haven't given me much info…any help would be appreciated! Thanks 🙂

This is what most pple are asking!! Theres only one way that i know of....... Going for a non -Traditional PharmD Program if you have a 4 yr Bpharm after jan 2003.

For FPGEE...... there's no alternative, you must have a 5 yr transcript evaluated by ECE.

It doesnt matter whether you have 100 P.H.Ds...200 M.Pharms degrees.
All they need is a PharmD or a 5 yr B Pharm. Obviously A pre-pharm doesnt work

The choice is yours

Hey..... another alternative!!

You can find wk as apharmacist in Canada..... go for a NT-PharmD...and finish up where u want to be!!

Makes some sense ............right??

So is the non traditional PharmD the 2.5 yr course that some universities offer in the US? Ive heard there arent many colleges that offer it…but after that u would be qualified for the FPGEE right?

And the Canada thing u mean get the NT-pharmD and then be able to practice in the US?

by the way where are u from? & thanks for ur help!

Well.......... a number of Universities offer it, however, some are restricting them selves to B.S.Pharmacists who are currently registred with NAPB as Pharmacists.

Those that offer the program to foreign, non licenced pharmacists are very few and abit expensive!!!

When you get the NT-PharmD, you dont need FPGEE, you go straight for internship, NAPLEX and Jurisprudence exam!!

The canada option it to be licenced there, since they dont need PharmD for one to practice. As you practice---earning ofcourse----, you can enroll in an NT-PharmD program. The end Justifies the means.

am from.......well not here, lest CIA, FBI look for me!!

Send me private msg, with yo email ad, i'll get to ya!!
