Hello,

Does anyone know starting salaries for PharmDs in the pharmaceutical industry? I know there are several various jobs in industry but I'd like to hear anyone's input. Can you note not only the salary but the type of career it entails.

What about PharmD, PhDs? Do they have salaries similar to PharmDs or PhDs?

Thank you~

Hi,
Regarding PharmD/PhD vs PharmD, the salary is exactly the same - there isn't one institution or company that will automatically scale up your salary based on the extra PhD next to your name.

That being said, you will most likely be a medcom or perhaps a staff scientist - pay scale ranges all the way from $60,000 all the way to perhaps $130k to start. This typically increases slowly over the course of your career.

Essentially, look to make no more than 150-160k at the end of your career. It is very similar to what retail pharmacists make (without the crap that comes with retail pharmacy), but be prepared to deal with corporate politics, etc etc.

If you are planning to make 200k+, I would suggest you also add an MD to the end of your name as well. Hope this helps.

You can make 160+ working for a pharmaceutical company, but you will have to move into significant management positions.

One of the reason why I left pfizer to go back to pharmacy school was that there were internal job postings in the clinical trials unit back in 2005-2006: PharmD $130K salary + stock options and performance bonus.

Of course those were the days of big pharmas doing well and pharmacists shortage.

Yea....NO...I have many friends in pharma...and you will not get this salary unless you're in management role dealing with little to no pharmacy at all.

Actually, I had just recently posted a lead pharmacist position that a head hunter called me about. It's at a CRO, not big pharma, and it paid $130-$140K + performance bonus + profit sharing. The qualification they were looking for was 3 years hospital experience. The only major drawback was the irregular schedule due to different clinical trials, but I thought it might be a good fit for an ambitious unmarried new resident.

Really??? I'll just take your word for it...oh you're just a student..nm

worked in industry for many summers
parents are management
access to rutgers fellowship salary database (you'll make 100k +/- 20k after your fellowship for those interested ..)
