Hey guys, wondering what programs are now pharmfree? I have heard alot of programs are moving int he direction, and to be honest, I am not one of the pharmfree promoters, but just curious what programs have done that.

Not looking for a debate, but I know many residents from programs are on here.. so just curious..

programs I am looking at I am especially curious.. These are:

Johns Hopkins
Mt. Sinai
VCU
UVA
Temple
Upenn
Thomas Jefferson
Pitt

Honestly it doesn't really matter, in a few short months, they won't be able to give you anything but a shiny brochure on how great their drugs are, how they have less side effects and better tolerability that the rest of the poisons out there. All other pharm treats and toys will be gone.

I thought Kessler/UMDNJ was in that group too. I could be wrong, but I thought that was what I had heard.

that is not a list that i am saying is pharm free. i am asking are any of these programs pharm free? just curious.. it seems each department at universities are breaking off and deciding for themselves!

so it looks like you can get free food.. just no more pencils, pens, mugs etc... and no more taking physicians do restaraunts.. i'm not liking this.... hm.. i wonder if they will find a way to get around it..

This is all mostly B.S. Our politicians, who are always on the take, have become very conscious of the perception that physicians are on the take. The New York Times has a couple of writers (Gardiner Harris and Alex Berenson) who just love to write (imbalanced) stories about abuses of the pharmaceutical industry, their willing accomplices (physicians on the take), and how it harms the populace at large.

I am not saying that the pharmaceutical industry is blameless in this mess, or that there aren't bad apple physicians who have abused their discretion, but some of these guidelines/rules are unduly burdensome, and foster a perception that physicians can't be trusted to make decisions in the interests of their patients. There are those that can't/don't...but these rules and guidelines won't fix that. Conversely, the politicians & bureaucrats don't seem to mind passing other rules that have a much greater impact, denying access of important healthcare services that clearly run counter to the interests of our patients. Just don't expect Gardiner Harris & Alex Berenson to write any exposés on that.

PS (reminds me of another set of rules that have helped patients a lot...HIPAA).
