I am an undergrad student wondering about my graduate studies.I haven't made up my mind to pursue a definite field for my further studies but I would probably go into a science field.Suddenly, the idea of doing doctorate degree in pharmacy stroked ma mind???I did little bit of internet search and got confused about the doctorate degree. What is Doctor Of Pharmacy??Is it like the PhD degree??
Actually,I m looking for a PhD after ma undergrad. Is it possible to have PhD on Pharmacy:if so ,what is it called??Will it be really wise of me to pursue ma career in Pharmacy??Any inputs, words from u will really matters and will be appreciated.

The doctor of pharmacy (PharmD) is mainly a practicioner degree, though you can sometimes still get somewhat involved in research with it (but the opportunities for research are limited).
There is no PhD in pharmacy. There are PhD programs in pharmaceutical sciences. That is a research degree.

As a future professional you may want to start saying "my" instead of "ma."

Thanks for the reply.
I m really confused at this moment.Since I will have my bachloer's degree,I can go where ever I want(here where ever means PhD in any science related fields) if my grades r good enough. So,please just suggest me "Should I go for it??"

No, you shouldn't. If you can't write proper english, you can forget about getting into any legitimate PhD program in the United States. I hope that clears up your confusion.

the search field is your friend.

Do you know what an MD is? It is not a PhD.
Do you know what new pharmacy school grads have? its a PharmD. It is not a PhD. There are PhD.s in pharmacology and probably something that has a prefix of pharmaco- attached to it but not pharmacy. All new graduates who use the title pharmacists must be licensed in pharmacy and hold a PharmD.

To make it really confusing, older pharmacists only hold B.S. degrees, and even more confusing, some might hold PhDs. But not in pharmacy. their PhD is more likely to be medicinal chemistry.

as far as picking a field, you just don't go out on a whim and say I am going to try this. That is left for communications and political science majors. When you pick a health career, its not only a job and a source of income, but it becomes your life. you become a professional. Its your lifestyle, this is especially true while being in school. Better make sure its not something that might sound interesting. Make sure its something you couldn't live without. (but thats how everyone should pick their job)

The only way to clear up your confusiion is to read and research information about different program.
Here is a start for you, know the difference between professional schools like pharmacy and graduate schools. Here is a quick link for you to browse.

Thanks for elucidating my confusion.I might not be as competent as u r in English but this doesnot mean i donn deserve any degrees. I am sure i do have better GPA than what u had while u were in college.Anyway,i will take take ur words as a complement.

You can have a 4.5 for your GPA and that wouldn't impress the adcom if you can't type coherently and properly. That goes for any degree, BA,MS,PhD. Unless you won the nobel peace prize that is 😀.

I think most can forgive some English-language incompetency, but you really should cease the "IM-speak" on a professional forum.
