Hey everyone,

I have a question regarding how much research experience is needed for admission into a PhD program in Healthcare Administration/Management/Policy. I currently have a MS in Healthcare Administration and Management but not from a CEPH school. I currently work in a community hospital in Guest Services.

I know that being published goes a long way in the PhD process but I just didn't have that opportunity because of the school I attended. However, I have created, led, and sustained my own data collection project for the hospital. The project entails keeping track of where visitors/patients go, how often, our busiest hours, etc. I also then perform calculations and report my findings to various department managers. Does this count at all towards research experience? Using solely this, will it be enough to cover my research portion of the application?

Thanks!

At the time I was admitted to a PhD program (admittedly different area since I was applying to epidemiology), I had almost three years of full-time research assistant work but no publications. So if you have strong demonstrated experience and can leverage that experience into having helped you developed your current skill set, absolutely can be used for your application.

Will it be enough? Unfortunately, I can't say for sure, but you'll never know unless you try 🙂

Hey Stories,

Thanks for the reply. I guess I just have to take whatever experience I do have and market it as best I can and I won't know for sure until I apply.
