Hi all,

I am on rotation, and was asked to find information about something called (I think) "Phenergan bomb". It is just one more street drug that is being made using IV promethazine. I am hitting a wall on this one, can anyone enlighten me??

This is weird, actually. I was just going to post on this topic myself. A family member of mine recently had surgery, and after he came out, he was throwing up do the pain meds/anesthesia, and the hospital staff was hesitant to give him phenergan because apparently some kids like to get "high" off of it. never heard anything like this before, and i dont really get why they would even consider that since he just had surgery...

IV promethazine is usually used with extreme caution in post-op/anesthesia because of the risks associated with the sedation and respiratory depression. PO promethazine is usually OK if they can swallow.

Are they talking about Phenergan with Codiene? That is a very popular combo to abuse. I believe the street term fo it is "lean". I love it when people come in and ask for a specific color or manufacturer.

I don't think the hospital knows exactly what it is... that's where I'm supposed to come in! They asked me to find out what it is, how it's made, what effects it has on people who use it, and abuse potential. I did find info on "lean" but nothing specifically about Phenergan bomb. I'm not sure if it's the same thing or not.

I am a firm believer in Google. If it doesn't come up on a Google search than it doesn't exist. There is not one mention of Pheneragn Bomb using Google so I do not know what to tell you....

I heard one time of a promethazine "bomb" being made with prometh. w/ codeine syrup mixed in with sprite and jolly ranchers... But to be honest I am not really sure if this is correct. I googled it but with no success. Good luck!

It's a new administration method used by hospitals to save money.

1.) Fill up a room of patients who require phenergan.
2.) Fill up an aerosol bomb with phenergan.
3.) Deploy bomb, which releases a fine mist spray of pherergan into the air.
4.) A room full of patients administered phenergan at half the cost!

Who knew that Iv prometh would ever become recreational...getting practically paralyzed is off the hook!

you could def find some heroin users with a few empty vials hanging around , that they used to supplement with until their next fix. great for withdrawl syptoms.

Im pretty sure on the streets a bomb connotates crack; heroin; large marijuana cigarette; high potency heroin . Maybe people are lacing their blunts with prometh. these days.

Good luck! I agree with the purple drank supporters. Sizzurp is something definately worth brining up and talking about considering its alarming usage rates.

Did you try Google Scholar?

I asked again today, and it's definitely a problem with IV promethazine, so "lean" is not it. I wonder if poison control would have any ideas?

They also aren't sure if it is actually called Phenergan Bomb... so it may have another name.

I'll keep searchin'!! Please let me know if you hear of anything!

All I know is there was a string of oxycontin robberies around here about a year ago where the suspects were armed, dangerous, and physical and they specifically asked for oxycontin brand and generic, and promethazine syrup and tablets. They did not want anything else.

If you want to be on the bleeding edge of recreational drug use, peruse these forums. It's this weird little forum where drug abusers share tips and theories....then test said tips and theories. It's a pharmacology nerd's dream. Like a village of guinea pigs willing to ingest anything. If I ever wanted to know the recreational abuse potential of Celebrex, I can find it on there (and you really can, too.) Before the mode get pissy, understand that I present this as a reference for avoiding drug abuse by knowing in advance what the abusers are getting into.....this is like an uninhibited view into their world. It's something any pharmacist should read at least once just for the sake of awareness.

Dig deep enough and I'm sure there has been a lengthy discussion of the subjective effects of phenergan abuse. When it comes to stuff like this, the more reputable information channels are useless.

A baby seal sheds a tear every time a British person uses improper English. (Just reading some posts on your linked site).

Let's use the acronym someone who isn't me (SWIM) ten thousand times per post.

That site is relatively interesting, whats with them referring to everyone as 'swim'? Is that their way of trying to avoid legal precautions?

I accidentally came across opiophiles.org when searching for the angry pharmacist one day - definitely an eye opening experience.

Awesome! How DO you find this stuff? Dude, screw hospital pharmacy and go into research...or some sort of pharmacy think-tank group.

It's sizzurp (syrup). Promethazine and codeine in 7-up.

Google sizzurp, or for your viewing "pleasure":

I can't believe I just watched that whole video. I also can't believe those guys are so entranced by their 7up changing color - "LOOK its changed color. WATCH, MAGIC!. Clear to purple omg." And then I found it kinda funny, the guy mixed his cup with two spoonfuls, yet mixed his "homeboy's" cup with one spoonful.

The modes understand the context of your contribution, even without the disclaimer.
