Hi, I am in CC now, and i am transferring to GMU in less than 5 months. Phi

Theta Kappa is a honor group. It says if i join, they may give me a pretty cap

and gawn for my graduation, chance of getting scholarship and participating

their activities. I don't get associate degree(i was planning to but i decided

to transfer as soon as possible) so i may not be able to wear prett cap and

gawn. I don't know if i can get scholarship even if i transfer. I don't have

much interest in participating their activities. The reason I am interested in

joining this group is because AADSAS application has a place where I can put

all the activities I participated so they can think i am well rounded person. As

long as I am in that group i can put that words down there, but it costs 75

dollars to join that group. I was wondering if writing down "Phi Theta Kappa"

in the application is worth me joining that group with 75dollars without any

interest.

Why don't you join a group that you have at least SOME interest in. What's the point of wasting your money when you won't get anything out of it. People who join millions of random organizations just to pad their resume's won't get much out of it. What will happen during your interviews when they ask you "SO, what did you do in Phi Theta Kappa"? I say, use your money, join a group that will cater to some of your own interests. Enjoy your time in college and don't throw money around thinking that you can buy improvements to your application. 🙂

There is a place where we should write "Awards, Honors, Scholarships."
I know that "Dean's list" is one of the awards, but what's HONORS? does that mean HONOR classes or what's honors?

I am a senior at my college and I never joined any elite societies even though I made it into the dean's honor list (>3.5) for a few semesters consecutively. I rather enjoy myself and pay for protein shakes and a gym membership than a honor's society to pad up my resume. I mean, how much more of an advantage is it? Just kill the DAT and do well in classes. Go out and work out, play sports, and do your thing. Dont blow off cash for something you have no interest in.

Take care,
Rich

All of those clubs are just "resume boosters". I made the mistake of joining Phi Eta Sigma my frehsman year because I thought it was an actual club. They turned out to do NOTHING! So after that, I just didn't buy any more memberships. On my resume I've always said "invitations to join..." and then listed all of the societies. It's a way of saying you were consdiered but you didn't feel like coughing up the cash. 😛

Though none of that helps me since I left the awards and honors section blank by accident. 😳

Oh well..I still got interviews.
