Is anyone else planning on going to Phonak U this summer? I just got an acceptance email and am excited about being able to do something audiology-related before my program starts at the end of August! Has anyone been or heard anything about it? They put you up in a hotel from Tuesday-Friday and give you a $250 travel stipend, which is pretty sweet, even though I'll end up having to shell out an extra $100 due to ridiculous airfare!

Hope to meet anyone who is going!

I got this too! I'm going to figure out if I can still go, however 🙂. This would be my only time to do the camp because my AuD program goes through August. But one thing I'm concerned about is...there hasn't been a lot of information to WHAT it entails or any contact really from the people that run it.

Yeah, I'm waiting until they send more information about registering for classes and everything until I actually book a flight or anything.

:help: Is there a good website where I can find out the specifics of this event? Has the deadline already passed?? :scared: Are you going before meeting the other students in your grad program??? 😕 Why did I not know about this sooner???? :boom:

If you type in PhonakU in Google, I think you can find the website. I must say, however, there is little to no information on the website..which concerns me. I believe the deadline has passed. It is a legitimate company but I would like to know the "logistics". Like what the classes are and who will be speaking. And how will they reimburse us for our ticket. Flying from Seattle (where I'm from) to Chicago is EXPENSIVE. Holy cow.

I'm going to run this by my future AuD coordinator and see what she says about this camp. I would probably be the only person from the UW going. I don't think UW AuD students can get permission for these camps if they have clinic/class during August but since I haven't started yet, this would be my best opportunity to go.

Its a great program that Phonak puts together, and is very educational. However, for those that have not started their programs I suggest you go next summer. You will appreciate the material more, I believe you will be lost at most of the lectures. I went after my first year and it was a great experience.

Spring88, have you gotten any more info from Phonak U? It's 3 weeks away and I still haven't heard anything about registering for classes or anything! I'm starting to get suspicious.... Definitely waiting to book a flight until I hear more!

Hi dg2b! I actually just got an email from them today. I emailed a few weeks ago and got a call but when I called back, I kept getting rerouted. I'm thinking I'm just going to pass this year and wait until I have more insight as an AuD student. I just hope that I will get permission from my program to go as an AuD student later on (my program runs through August).

I decided to just go for it this year! I have absolutely nothing to do during that week, so it was either sit at home doing nothing or go, even if some of the information will be over my head! I figure at worst it's a 4-day mini-vacation with free food, and hopefully I'll learn a thing or two and make some connections! 🙂 I just hope I don't make a fool out of myself with my lack of knowledge and experience! 😳

dg2b: I'm a 2nd year but this will be my first conference/camp-type event. All the material I registered for seems interesting so I'm hoping to learn something as well. Let me know if you have any questions. I got to the University of Louisville but I'll be flying in from Ohio.

For anyone who is thinking about doing Phonak U next year, I highly recommend it! They put on a great program, with tons of really interesting classes about all different aspects of audiology. I was the only student going into first year there, and the majority of people were going into 2nd year. It definitely was a great experience, and it really got me excited to start my program in 2 weeks!
