Photographic memory?

I'm curious, do any of you have photographic memories? I'd never even really thought about it until about a year ago when someone told me I must have one. I could always just remember every little detail about things...consequently I did well in school. How does one know if they have a photographic memory, or is it just a general term for someone with a damn good one?

People say having a photographic memory is a curse.

However, I think it's a curse that I could learn to live with.

I think a lot of people are good "visual" learners in that they remember what they see very well. However, a truly photographic memory is rare. Those people can look at a page and recite lines off of them later on! Man I wish i had that.

a memory in which you can uncannily see lets say the pages of the book in your mind with the text basically word for word.

thatd be pretty photographic.

There are numerous exposes and books on this topic.

The vast majority of people with insane memories actually learned to develop them. This is a combination of varoius associations, mnemonics, etc.

The bottom line is this: Memory is something that can be improved. Various methods work for certain situations. Seriously, though. There are libraries of books on this very topic. Start in your local library.

(Btw, guys like Homer were cool. Since he was blind he had to recite all of his epics by memory so that they could be transcribed.)

I had an actual documented photographic memory when I was a kid. Learned how to read at 18 months, started playing violin at age 3, and was on That's Incredible at age 5. Can actually remember looking at picture or text, and being able to "see" it long afterwards with perfect recall. I also had an entire Bach composition book memorized, and could play it simply by "seeing" the music. Dad bought me a VIC-20 computer for that one (anybody remember those). Don't recall when exactly I lost the ability, but I'd say somewhere around 10 years? I still speed-read, and have some traces of it, easy memorization skills, lots of "in your head" skills, such as math, etc., but at times I wish I could still do what I remember.

you currently have jr. jr. status. if you want to be a sr. member in the photographic memory club then you gotta develop it like the post a few posts above this one said. 😀

but i always thought people with true photomem just have it and dont need to develop.

i met someone with photographic memory. i felt kinda bad for her cause at this party her friend would show her off...like she was a toy or something. but i was defintely impressed/amazed etc... i wanted to ask her more bout it but felt she would have been bored so i did not pursue my line of questioning....

If I recall correctly from my cognitive psychology class, photographic memory really does not exist, and if it does it is extraordinarily rare. Actually, it is thought that people with certain mental deficiencies are more likely to have a photographic memory. I don't have my textbook handy, so I don't remember specifics.

Depends there is photographic and eidentic.

One can recall a memory with detail.
Or you can zoom in and out and really look at the memory.

Other can memorize books and etc. Being able to recall context easily
