What's your favorite? My school recommended Mosby's, and I think that a good pocket guide would be better and easier to carry around.

Better to practice than to learn it from books. Mosby's is our standard.

We use Bates, it's pretty good.

bates is great
....but u cant carry it in ur pocket

I have Swartz's Textbook of Physical Diagnosis and it hasn't disappointed yet. It doesn't fit into any pockets - you just have to learn it at home and then go practice on patients.

Everything is well explained and as a bonus it comes with a CD-ROM.

i like mosby's. i only have the big one, so obviously i don't carry it around. i've found it too be a good reference everytime i've needed to double check something or do some review. i think the material is presented in a suitably straight-forward manner.

if i'm in clinic and have a question about an exam, i just ask an attending or resident. as long as you have some idea what you're looking for, they are usually happy to explain.
