hello
this is my first post...so liable to make mistakes....😎

First and foremost, can anyone name the top hunch books in examining patients in surgery....i just know the Hamilton bailey's....

Secondly, how to make concepts(beginner level) in the operative surgery? Is there any step by step approach or just open the book and read.Any online guide?

Lastly, which websites you routinely visit and would like to refer to feed my 'surgery' appetite....😉🙂

hope to get replies.........:luck:

Sounds to me like you are more in need of an appetite for English literature or just plain correct English, or even American will do. Start there, then work your way up to surgery. Good luck.

Yes, got to say, I found your initial post just about as clear as mud.... I could have tried to infer what you were trying to say.... but, not a mind reader and couldn't even tell if you knew what you wanted to say or if you were asking a thoughtful question....:scared:

A good physical exam for surgery is a good physical exam for any specialty. Any solid book (take your pick) and physical diagnosis course (your medical school should have one) can teach you the basics of knowing how to perform a good HISTORY and physical exam in any type of patient. The techniques are no different for surgical patients. Good surgeons are generally the folks who don't read "hunch" books but are able to use their diagnostic skills (developed by solid experience and good training) to evaluate their patients.

In terms of your "surgery appetite", spend some quality time with your surgical residents and faculty at your medical school. I am sure that they will provide more than enough experience for you. If you are a pre-clinical student, then your emphasis should be on your coursework especially the development of strong communication and observation skills which are key to being a good surgeon. Good luck!

Agree with njbmd - a good physical examination book is the basis for everything, including the surgical examination. However, the most learned surgeon has become so not by reading a book but by seeing and doing.

Hamilton and Bailey is not well known in the US, but is as good a book on PE as any. As I recall, we used Mosby's in school, but I am sure there are others. Cope's is also a small, easy ready for the abdomen.

And like the PE, understanding operative basics is generally better done than read. I don't know how many inguinal hernia repairs I did as a junior before it started to gel. You can read about it, study the atlases, but doing it is key.

never expected to get so many replies...thank you. and am i so poor in english?..😱

i have decided to read the Hamilton Bailey & cope's acute abdomen

njbmd,
