Hi guys! After graduation I began working with a physician at his private practice and overall it has been an amazing experience. He knew I was applying to medical schools this cycle and that I had an interview recently. After asking me how my interview went (which I thought went well!) he asked me which school it was at. He told me he was familiar with the school and offered to call the dean or director of admissions if I could provide him with some form of contact like a phone number. Is this unusual for a physician to do? He is a well respected and is a widely known physician who is affiliated at numerous hospitals. He sounded confident and said he believed his input would be work in my favor. I of course thanked him for the offer. I'm not too familiar with situations like this and was wondering if you guys could give me your two cents. I recently interviewed and will not hear a decision back until weeks down the road. I was thinking that him calling on my behalf would be extremely helpful in the event I was waitlisted and to just let the adcoms decide without him calling for now. Appreciate the comments in advance!!

Is he affiliated with the medical school as well? Like does he have a formal appointment (professor, associate professor, assistant professor, instructor, etc)?

No, he's not affiliated with the school. When I told him the school, he replied "Ahh yes, I know 'school name'".
