There are family medicine residents that rotate through anesthesia occasionally to learn airway management and anesthesia basics. It is a very hands on FM residency, and one of the top ranked nationally. Many of them go back to rural practices with ERs or international locations after graduation so they try to learn as many skills as possible throughout the hospital.

I would estimate that I have them with me on the anesthesia side maybe 5% of my cases. And you can have them with you or not, it is attending's choice.
