I am looking for job opportunities and came across Optima Anesthesia in Dallas and was curious to know if anyone has any information on this group? Are they a small pp group? Hiring? I thought metro and USAP were the major players in Dallas.

Never heard of them. Other players are valiant, symmetry (owned by baylor), noble (good group mostly office based and ASC), and academic. There’s also JPS in Fort Worth (level 1 trauma) not sure the group there now. I’ve been a locums in the area for 8ish years so that’s my lay of the land. Comp is suppressed in the area compared to other areas in TX. I am hard pressed to find local Locum rates over $375-400 for general.

What does the typical salary look like in this area for a W2 position? $375 doesn't seem terrible for locums. Would like to work in DFW as it's my home town but like you said it looks like comp is supressed.

I think for general $550-600 w2 is doable. But go out of the metroplex even a little ways and you get higher than that into the 700s easily

mind if I dm? I'd like more info on which groups/facilities will offer higher comp. thanks

I've been in the area for over a decade now. Never heard of them. I find it interesting that some of the hospitals that they list on the website already have exclusive contracts with USAP, Metro, or Allen. One of the hospitals that they list closed down 8 years ago and was only open for two years. Wtf?

yeah that's crazy. which facilities or group do you recommend is the best to work at? especially if it's your first job out of training

First job out of training, I would try to work at a place where you can do your own cases. The learning curve for your first couple of years on your own is very steep. Would also try to find somewhere where you can do a lot of different cases/acuity
