There was an article in the NY Times on physician practices being acquired by large hospitals:

There seems to be a rising trend in the number of physicians employed by hospitals. Based on a variety of factors, it seems as if many (most?) of us will be employees and not independent practitioners.
How do you think this will change medicine?
Personally, I would prefer to be a salaried employee because I could avoid the administrative and business side of the field (which I have no interest in). But I have heard others complain about the potential encroachment of economics into decision making regarding care.
Thoughts?
