I already have AP credits for Phys 1 (Mechanics) and I plan to use it. Next spring semester (Spring 2014) I plan to take OChem 2 and Phys 2 together. That's 7 credits already. If I take 2 more Liberal Education classes and go with 13 credits that semester, would that be doable for me? I want the highest possible grades for those important prereq classes.

Regarding Phys, should I just skip Phys 1 and go straight to Phys 2? I heard that Phys 1 and 2 are not so related so do I need any review?

I can't answer your question because I'm only going to be a freshman but for AP credits, Medical schools don't accept them so you'll need to take Physics 1&2 at a college or university.

This is true in many cases. However your other options is to simply take another higher level physics course (many of which can be easier than the initial weed-out courses like Mechanics and E/M).

Anyway, I think its definitely doable. Taking two real classes during a semester shouldn't be too frightening. As long as you don't have to take any other hard classes. If you got AP credit in high school, sounds like you don't suck at physics, and you've taken organic I so you know your comfort level there.

Also true that phys 1 and 2 are not very closely related.

Wrong.

Correct, but it applies for most cases (I don't know about the UC schools).

Last semester I took physics 2 + lab, Orgo 2 + lab, physiology + lab and an English class while studying for my mcat. It was really hard but I ended up with As in everything and did pretty well on the mcat so it's totally doable. Get a daily plan/routine and stick to it. And always get enough sleep. The heavy course load will prepare you well for future classes.

Thanks for all of your replies. I am a little bit more confident now that I'll be able to handle the workload - like you all said, it's not too brutal after all. However, my main concern now is that should I skip Phys 1 and go straight into Phys 2?

Yes. You are fine.

Do it. Modern is way more interesting than mechanics anyway. Plus modern lab is probably the coolest lab available in college (if you can choose experiments, make sure to choose Millikan oil drop first - its a really short one 😀)
