Dear all,

My sister is almost done with taking ehr bachelor degree in physics in an international univerity, can this degree be considered pre-medical?

If so, what other exams will she require to take? Toefel? Mcat?

What about her GPA? Does it play a big role?

Any comments ate highly appreciate, we are completely clueless...

Regards,

The major is completely irrelevant is long as you take the correct prereqs.

The fact that she is international is a problem.

Thank you for you response.

How big of a problem are we talking?

Rule of thumb: she has to have at least SOME coursework done in the USA or Canada to be eligible.

And the following ought to be completed too:

1 year of english
1 year of general chemistry /w lab
1 semester of organic chemistry /w lab
1 semester of biochemistry
1 year of biology /w lab
1 year of physics /w lab
1 semester+ of maths (statistics generally, sometimes calculus)

Because the MCAT already tests verbal reasoning, very few schools require the TOEFL or a similar test.

I'd say a year of OChem is more advisable.

I appreciate your input.

So she should apply for a pre-med year? Which hopefully involves all of these?

Don't some universities just teach all this in a preparation year?

So once she gets her bachelor degree in physics, typically, what would be the next step? Mcat? English year? Prep year?

Thanks again

I could see someone doing all of the prereqs in two years, but not one. Even for a physics major, that's probably a bit much. She should look into postbac programs for sure.

This will definitely be helpful, thank you for sharing.

if she's a physics major, she's probably too smart to be a doctor anyway.
Shes a bit confused about how to complete her profession ..

Where can we find the post bac program options, she might like to reconsider..
