do pharmacy schools look down on phsyics on a community college? i plan on applying to osu, usc, ucsd, and ucsf, ive taken upper divison classes but physics is the only class im gonna take at cc. do pharmacy schools like usc and ucsd look down on cc credit or do they value it the same? also i have As in my upper divisons like a gangster

Med school students take pre-reqs at community colleges, so why can't you? If you have a Bachelors degree it doesnt really matter where you finish your pre-reqs.

cuz some websites say "prefer taking pre-reqs at 4 years" but shouldnt the classes be valued the same

As long as you get a good grade on them, they could not care less. Thats what the pharmacy schools Ive talked to have said. As long as you nail the PCAT(same content for everybody), they dont care where you took your prereqs.

The short answer is yes.. most 4 year universities look down upon community college as inferior. So if you were to just take all of your pre-pharm courses from a CC they would probably take that into account. Just a few courses? I wouldn't worry. I took 2 years at a CC before I transferred to a 4 year university to finish a degree. One of the courses I took there was physics.

So true! I don't know how I got in to every school I applied to being from a CC. Just lucky I guess.

Ive asked about 20 or so schools about this specific question and they've all said that they don't really care as long as you have a Bachelors degree.

Owlegrad, I'm not sure what point you are trying to make with your blatant sarcasm. Just because you got into every school you applied to doesn't mean that the ad com didn't look at your educational choices as inferior to a university setting. You likely had a strong application in other areas and had a strong GPA/heavy course load and other factors that made you look appealing. I wouldn't take it personally, it's just how many administrators at 4 year universities think; that CC's have tremendous grade inflation, 2nd rate professors, and that they just let everyone in. There is a tremendous social stigma surrounding CC's that extends itself to the university setting, whether you want to admit it or not, that's how it is.

You and I are both from a CC and we know the truth. However, that doesn't stop people from looking down upon those who received an education from a CC, likely the same way some people at expensive private colleges look down at those of us who choose to go to public institutions. I heard it directly from one of the deans here at a top public pharmacy school, in not so many words, that they look down at CC's as providing an inferior education. This was at a public pharmacy school informational gathering. Take it for what you will but ceteris paribus those coming from a university will look more competitive than those from a CC. We are all prone to biases, and ad coms are no different. Regardless, I already explained to the OP that taking a few courses at a CC will have no affect on how they view their application. I took 2 years of courses at a CC (before going to a university to finish my B.S.) and I too got into every school I applied to (thus far).

You will be fine as long as you get A's. If you consistently get low grades then they make take into account grade inflation. The way I see it is that earning an A in a CC will not let the ad con determine if you can get an A or not in an university physics course. However, anything lower can make them think, " if he/she got a C in a CC imagine what he/she would get at a univeristy. At the end of the day, I don't think it will amtter especially now where there is a school in poping up everyday. I took most f my courses at CC and only 6-7 at a private univeristy. No BS or BA. EXCUSE the typos. I am trying to type this on an iPhone with a cracked screen

Same here... no BS/BA, also I took ALL of my courses at CC. I got in to every school I applied, and I will be going to UIC this Fall. Moral to this story... It does not matter whether you go to CC or University. You just have to set yourself apart from other applicants! Schools are not looking just at one factor; they are looking for well rounded applicants.

I think ad coms look at university education more favorably, but by no means is going to CC a dealbreaker because it's about the whole application.
