physics equation - where did it come from?

so just given the height and the initial horizontal velocity of an object thrown, the question asked to find out where the object lands.

i knew you had to find time to plug it into d = vt, but i didn't know how. in the explanation they gave the equation t = (2h/g)1/2 to find it. i'm wondering where this equation was derived from - maybe my brain is oversaturated right now and this may be a dumb question...but i'd love an answer 😕
