Hi Everybody,

Sorry if I am not posting this in the right spot - I'm new at this. Anyway, I am currently a sophomore in college and I have taken Biology, Chemistry, and after this year, I will have finished Organic Chemistry. I am thinking about taking Physics during the summer (both I and II), and I was wondering if any of you has an opinion on it as to whether this is a good or bad idea. I also plan on volunteering at the same time. What are your opinions? Any suggestions?

Thanks so much!

I am doing the exact same thing, and in the same situation, except that I'm taking Physics I, II, III, and concurrent labs as my institution runs in the quarter system. I think it's feasible, but I'm apprehensive and inquiring, too.

Is yours algebra-based?

Cambino: Yes, mine is algebra-based. And mine also comes with the labs. I am even more apprehensive about it because I REALLY need to do well on it and I'm worried that the overload of material will be too much to handle.

May I ask how you did on your other pre-med courses? I'm wondering if it looks bad for me to take a science during the summer given my grades. For me:

General bio I and II - B+
Gen Chem I - A-
Gen Chem II - A
Orgo I - B
Orgo II - In progress (but is looking really bad...so far I have like a C or C+ and I'm really scared)

I'm taking both parts this summer. It is algebra/trig based. So far there are only 5 people registered for the only section they offer. That worries me.:scared:

I'm also considering taking physics over the summer. Unfortunately I have no idea where to take it...besides my local CC (that's all I can afford)

Don't community college it if you're still in undergrad. If you had very little trouble with gen chem, physics should be no problem. Both are different topics, but the math is roughly equivalent. If it's calculus based, you might want to hold off. I would not recommend the calculus based at all though. Trigonometry based is exactly what the mcat tests.

I took Physics I over the summer. I was so burnt out, that I didn't take Physics II (but I am taking it now). However, each person is different.

I'd ask the opinions of people who've taken the class during the summer at the college you attend. If you are not 100% confident you can handle both theory and lab over the summer sessions, I'd atleast hold off on taking the labs.

I took them over the summer at a local community college. They used the same book as my university, so I wasn't too worried about content. I worked pretty hard in order to be familiar physics for the MCAT. Summer school stinks, but it was definitely worth it.
