Physics in optometry school

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
you'll really only use the optics part. (which is basically just algebra)

If you hate physics don't worry... you'll still do fine 🙂

How much of physics will be used in optometry school?

I agree. Optics is the only one we are really using. Its all deeply in depth with tons of formulas and physical properties of light in different mediums (especially the eye) but all in all, no electricity, okay there is light too but not like the stuff from physics I took. You'll do fine I'm sure. Remember when you get into Opt. School you will start seeing patients and while grades are always improtant patients and treating what is wrong with them becomes a priority.

Speaking of physics, the physics department at my school really sucks. 😡

Should I take it at community college and transfer it? 😕 Will that look good on my transcript when I apply to any optometry school of my choice?

My physics professor in undergrad was a great guy, but he was so into astronomy and such that we didn't even GET to the optics part, even though it was in the course description. Needless to say, I was not pleased. I am not a "physics person" anyway, so I was really worried about what optics would be like when I got to optometry school.

Anyway, despite my not being a "physics person," and completely lacking any optics experience prior, I thought optics was okay. Yes, there were some difficult exams, etc. But I didn't feel like I was behind or anything. It might have been good to have a head-start memorizing formulas and such, but the classes were totally and completely possible. I took Part I of boards earlier this month, and I actually felt most comfortable with optics.

The physics department at my school sucks too. I took it this summer (both semesters) at another 4-year school.. I would have taken it at community college but mine didn't offer it during the summer. It'll be fine on your transcript, I've talked to the schools I'm interested in and they said it's okay to take science/math courses over the summer.. provided you get good grades! 😀

Physics is my worst subject! :scared:

How much physics does one need to know for the board licensing exam is another important question.
