Hello,

My current four year plan has me taking Physics 1 and 2 during my third year (Biochem 1 and 2 will also be taken concurrently). Should I try and take physics during my second year (this upcoming semester?) I will also be taking two Biology courses and Orgo 2 this upcoming semester, and Gen Chem 2 + genetics in the spring semester.

I should add that I currently plan on taking the MCAT during the Spring semester of my third year. Ideally, I would like to take it earlier, but I don't start Biochem until the Fall of my third year.

That's my plan exactly. I will take the MCAT around when my junior year spring semester ends and submit to a throwaway school until I get my results in.

Are you also taking the mcat at the end of spring semester because of biochem in the fall? Or is there another prereq/reason?

For Physics II, otherwise I'd take it in January (after Biochem in the fall)

The MCAT is completely study-able on its own, if that helps. The prep books and practice tests will cover and explain anything and everything you need to know. I honestly felt like taking formal university courses wasn't necessary. This is anecdotal of course, perhaps someone here can support me and feel the same way? In following my own opinion, i would format my course in such a way that guarantees the best chances of a higher transcript grade.

Oh I see; so we're actually in the exact same boat. I'm feeling kind of uneasy about taking it in June and applying to a throwaway. I was planning on just self studying physics 2 over the summer and doing my content review over the fall semester and using winter break for full-time designated studying.

What convinced you to take it in may/June?

I thought about it, but then decided against it because I'm decent at physics and it's tested pretty lightly on the mcat, so I felt like self studying and taking the mcat in January is a better option than waiting to take it last minute.

OP - you're fine with physics in junior yr.

I decided self-studying would probably bite me. My high school did not give me a strong education in physics and I just am not good at math-in-science, though I'm good at math separately and science separately. Not sure why. That being said, my plan might change as I get closer. If my GPA is low I won't do it, I'll take it over the summer to apply next year. I also just think combining the MCAT with the rest of the app stuff might help with stress levels. I took the SATs so early it felt like college apps were over a year long, and it was pretty stressful.

So it'll be fine for the MCAT? I don't plan on taking a gap year.

If your taking the mcat at the end of spring semester junior year, then yes, physics in junior yr is perfectly fine.
