Ok I have read many different threads about the OAT and all of the different studying materials. I know that the DAT book by Kaplan is a great study source, which is what I have. I also have the OAT Kaplan book, with practice tests and sections.

My question is, those of you who have used the DAT book to study, how do you study for the Physics section? Do you use crammers physics book? or just your old college physics book? or what is the best to get the most condensed, yet full coverage study material for the OAT?

Thanks in advance!

I am using the Kaplan OAT book also and it has physics in it, unless you are talking about the one that is only practice tests. The MCAT ExamKrackers book for physics is good review if you dont have any other resource.

Stick with ExamKrackers!!! Also check out this guys youtube page named "derekowens", He is awesome!!! That is about it when it comes to physics. Leave Kaplan's physics alone! it was seriously a waste of my time!!! I didnt know a thing in physics, and I spent a month and a half using OAT Destroyer, Exam Krackers and youtube and I scored pretty darn well🙄.

I'm taking Kaplan Course right now. Can you elaborate why the Physics portion of Kaplan is a waste of time? It's what I'm using...............

Thank you for your advice.

Everyone is different. If you are taking the Kaplan Course, then I am sure you will do well. The physics portion is VERY VERY EASY, and Kaplan fails to deliver that idea or at least place emphasis on certain subjects that we are going to see more often. I had the Kaplan OAT practice book and MCAT study guide and it was not only way too much information, but many of the topics covered on the physics portion served to have showed up less than 10% on my actual exam. Now again, you are taking a class so things are WAY different in your situation. Anyone who is studying by themselves might need to take my two cents into consideration. At least for me, efficiency needed to be maintained as much as possible. Thus, Kaplan just didnt cut it. I liked EK and the Destroyer because they told you the level of importance and the possibility of you coming across the problem; and they were SPOT ON!!
Anywhoosals 😀

MAJOR AGREE to what arahnisarahn said! I did the Kaplan program and the 2 weeks leading up to my test I was freaking out about Physics. A friend offered her Destroyer physics for me and I was beyond thankful! The book goes in order of what you learned in Physics class, and there are about 2-3 problems of each topic consecutively so once you learn a concept, you can answer the next two questions. Kaplan was just very detailed on learning everything about physics; way more than you actually need for the test. After physics destroyer, my real score ended up being my 2nd highest of all subscores!! Now if only I could figure out my reading comp

Kaplan's physics was wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy harder than the actual test. Going into the test I had like 3 pages of equations memorized. LOL. For the actually test, I only used maybe like 5 equations. F=ma and the 4 kinematic ones. The test is very conceptually based and there really isn't that plug and chug / mathematically based questions. Focus on the big topics and understand the concepts. Don't worry too much about the physics portion. I ended up getting 350 on physics and I was getting around 290-310 on the kaplan physics.

Good luck 🙂
