I have taken physics I at my university. I got a B but barely. Physics II is supposed to be much harder at my school. I will be taking MCATs in the spring and I am taking a tough course load this fall. My advisor told me to put off physics II for the spring. I was looking to lighten up my course load in the spring since I am taking MCATs. Since physics is not one of my strong subjects, I was wondering if it would be a better idea to take it at a community college this summer. I would have a much better chance of getting an A I feel if I took it this summer. I just do not know if med schools will look down upon it or not. I figure that an A at a community college would look better than a B- or C at my school.

They may ask why you took it at a CC and if you answer truthfully, they're not going to like it. Also, physics will be on the MCAT. So looking for an easy way out may hurt you in the long run.

Good luck in any case.

if she gives another excuse that sounds better how will it look to adcoms?

They may feel neutral or skeptical. I don't know, we're talking about one class here. Unless OP fails it, I can't see it making a big difference.

Adcom 1: Well this applicant has a good GPA and MCAT and seems to exude a sincere commitment to helping patients.
Adcom 2: But wait, Physics II was taken at Smallville Community College instead of Metropolis University.
Adcom 1: OH MY GOD THAT CHANGES EVERYTHING!

Sorry I didn't mean to sound like a tool (well I did a little). I just wanted to demonstrate how negligible the difference makes in terms of med school admissions.

thank you! lol i think i'll take it at cc and come up with a good excuse of why i took it there in case they ask.

Sure, no problem. Good luck.

If you decide to take it at a CC, you had better make sure you rock it. Taking the class at a CC does not necessarily mean that the class will be easy, particularly if you plan to take it over the summer. If you take the class and don't do so hot, it will look even worse than bombing it at your uni. Not to mention the looks you will already receive for taking a science pre-req at a CC WHILE being enrolled at a 4 year.

Like they said there is no guarantee it will be easier at CC. A lot of CC professors grade harder than 4-yr professors. Bottom line is Physics is hugely important on the MCAT so you need to rock it wherever you take it. As for interviewing, its not as important as bio and chem, so if you get a B youll be fine. I would just take it at your 4-yr institution to be honest. But what do I know; I took the MCAT without taking physics II as well- but made up for it through the Kaplan prep course.

Take it at the cc... Idk if they'll start up where your phys one class left off. At my university, phys 2 start with SHM, waves, sound moved to electrostatics/mag to circuits to optics to nuclear. Regardless of where they start, ull def wanna do a thorough review of what u didn't understand in phys I.

you could tell them you took physics (could be chem or bio) at a cc during the summer to speed up graduation and it (the cc) was near to your family so you just decided to kill 2 birds with one stone family and school.
