My physics prof is so bad I think he actually confuses me more than helps me understand the material. I am not the only one. I could skip class but he actually makes us sign in before class starts. He takes attendance. We also have two quizes a week so I cant really skip class. So I am considering dropping phyiscs and learning it for myself for the MCAT. Anyone else done this same thing for the same reason ?

I had a professor this bad for Classical Physics. Worst teacher in the history of teaching; I barely got out of that class with a passing grade. I don't know what to tell you, except either buckle down, or get out of the class if it's making you dumber. Gawd, I loathed that man.

I had a similar experience. It's No Win.

I'll tell you what I wound up doing.

With the permission of the professor and my advisor, I took an incomplete in the course. I then completed the course over the Summer before the MCAT with a different professor. I didn't have to pay for the class twice this way.

I did have to report the class as incomplete on my AMCAS, but the grade showed up as the "A" I earned.

When asked about this in an interview, I simply explained I was concerned about my MCAT prep and the courseload I was carrying at the time and my advisor suggested I take physics over the summer. Then point to MCAT score.

It sucks, but it's but it's better than bombing the class.

if i were you, i would bank on the curve

how do you plan on meeting the physics pre-requisite at almost every med school?

that's too bad. My prof was really good, but I'm not sure what to suggest. Maybe just sleep through class? 😛

Go to class so you can sign in, but wear earplugs and bring a book so you can study in class. Its worth a shot 🙂

Drop physics. A bad teacher can really screw you up. YOu should be alright leartning it yourself if you can stay on track... Not an optimal situation though as having a good teacher can be pretty helpful.

Don't you need physics for your prerequisite? If you can take it another semester with a different professor, then maybe you could drop it, but if he's the only prof you're going to have to buckle down and take it sometime, so it might as well be now.

I had a French professor like that, and my solution was to sit in the back of the class, and either zone out and ignore him or get other work done. Then I would go home and teach myself french.

Good luck with that!
