i have a friend that needs to ace his physics final to pass the class and graduate. his textbook kind of sucks, and i was wondering if any of you knew of any good review books that might help him out over the weekend. the class is calculus based physics 2, and the chapters covered are....

wave optics
quantum mechanics
electricity
conductivity
gaus's law
current resistance
magnetism

and all other kinds of stuff that sounds really unpleasant. i know i used some mcat books to help me with physics when i took it, but that was a really long time ago, and i only remember D = M/V...lol. anyway, if any of you have any suggestions, I'd really appreciate it. thanks!

I can't help much but be sure that he understands the calculus first. sometimes people really need more work on their calc.

Review books is kind of hard. All I can say is that the Ohanian textbook is pretty good for intro phys.

And has LOTS and LOTS of problems, but no answers in the back.

I took the phys w/o calc so I don't think I can be of much help. my book was james walker and it wasn't too bad. I think the best thing is to just do a search on amazon.com. Type in physics w/ calc and look at customer reviews. A lot of people rate their textbook there and their ratings have been a huge help to me when I'm looking for a good textbook.

"College Physics" by Serway. Lots of nice pictures.

Serway is a good book. To get a grasp on some of the BASIC physics concepts, I think Nova MCAT physics is an excellent book. There is no calculus and the problems are multiple choice, but it is very helpful breaking down the concepts.

Yeah Serway...definitely! I have a Buffa and Wilson book and it is very complicated. If you can get a hold on Serway you would benefit.

I second the Serway. You can get an old edition from Amazon for about $5.
