I'm a non-Bio major with room to fit only 1 extra class other that prereqs. What do you recommend it to be? I'm debating on Physiology, Anatomy or Biochem... Thanks in advance

I'm in the same exact boat as you. I was recommended to take Human anatomy. So that's what I'll do.

My $.02.....I'd take biochemistry. But that's just me. I thought it was a great class.

i think that in terms of the MCAT biochem would be more helpful (but don't take my word for it).
otherwise, if you find one topic more interesting than the other, go for that one.
also, the "quality" of the professors, the difficulty of the classes, and even what fits better into your schedule timewise are all factors to consider if you are very undecided.

I was in a similar situation last year when I began my post-bacc courses. My advisor recommended a non-science course, Law & Medicine, which has turned out to be invaluable during the interview process.

Personally, I agree with Samoa. I figure the helpfulness of taking Biochem or Anatomy/Physiology in preparation for the same courses in med school isn't significant enough to suffer through in undergrad.

All offer their advantages, but I would personally take physiology because it is more conceptual than anatomy, which is basically rote memorization. As for biochemistry, it really depends on your specific course. The one biochem course at my university basically consisted of memorizing a million pathways, a substantial percentage of which I will never see in medical school.

I would probably take biochem or physiology. Personally speaking, I hate rote memorization (anatomy).

Scuba-diving. Don't waste your time on stuff you'll only have to take again in med school.

I actually did this--filled a remaining course slot with SCUBA diving. I think it was one of the best choices I made.

If you want to choose between those three courses though, I would think biochemistry might be the most helpful. This is not, however, from personal experience. I've talked to a few M1s and they seem to think that having taken biochem before med school, freed up some time to do other nasty things like histology.

I'd go with Biochem because a few schools (e.g. U Mich) require that you take it prior to enrollment. I think many of the schools that require biochemistry usually want a whole year though. Off hand, I don't know of any medical schools that require Physiology or Anatomy as prereqs.
