Hi, I am pre-dental and will be attending UMDNJ's SMP program.
I have a choice between the two classes (dental physio vs dental histology), but I am only allowed to take one of the two.
These two are actual dental school courses so please share your experience/suggestion with these two classes...

I want the one that looks good on my application and most importantly, the one that I have a better shot at =)

Thanks all!

If you get an A in an actual dental course then it will look good, no matter which course it is. Physio is harder in my opinion, histology is easier but boring as ****.

No master's students got an A in dental physio this year at UMDNJ. A B+ times 5 credits is a 3.3 X 5 on your grad GPA on AADSAS, do you really want that over a possible 4.0 X 5 for histo? In the end the physio risk is higher than the reward.

Thank you guys for your post,

Yeah I heard bad things about the physiology...

What is Histology class like ? I haven't taken any histology in my undergrad and I have no idea what I will go through...

Can anyone give some examples of what you learn in histology class...

Thanks!

Histology is basically the study of the 4 main tissue types, obviously dental histology will focus on the tissues and components of the teeth and its surroundings.

I personally liked histology a lot, it was my favorite class in undergrad.

Thanks Tommy, all I could think of histology is looking at stained microscopic slides =)

Take Histo for sure. The teacher at UMDNJ is really good, and its easier to do better in Histo than physio. Physio was quite difficult to do well in here. 30 questions on each exam, so missing a couple questions due to differences in interpretation between you and the professor costs you a lot. Most of the professors aren't very receptive to challenges either, even if you were both clearly right.

That being said, histo was pretty boring to me. Lots of memorization. The slide portion of the class wasn't all that bad, he basically shows you powerpoints of slides and tells you about them, and generally the same or similar slides show up on the slide portion of the exams.
