Ok, since I have been reading some terrible experiences about RC with Piano, I am freaked out totally and losing it.
I know those types of question. I remember them from Verbal Reasoning, but VR was only 600 character. It was not easy at all, but possible to remember and draw the main point and answer long wired questions. RC is much longer and I do not think I can count on memory in stressful condition to draw the main idea, etc. And English is my 2nd language.

For those of you who had it, did it help doing some reading about piano and how it works? I do not want to waste my time if it does not help.

I am really :scared::scared::scared:

Can't tell you what it was about....some people are good with reading and fast readers and some are not. It's only 12 to 13 paragraphs but i am not sure what makes it tough may be b/c English is my second language that's why it takes little while to get those questions. but not sure about the reason of it being hard

Well, English is my 2nd language too and another reason to be scared. I can not beleive you did so well on all other parts. I really hope schools consider your situation unique and don't count too much on your RC.

I am really good at understanding things. if I have time, I spend as much time as needed to understand it not just memorize it...that's why i did good in other things but as for RC, it's like you are seeing it first time and you have to do that thing ....i don't see what's the point of RC? Like who can really read 12 to 14 paragraph's passage that quick? Plus they ask questions about what does author think about passage n what's tone of the passage n etc? If it takes time just to find one simple definition type answer for normal people like us then how in the world can we say about what whole passage is about? lol but oh well you gotta do it so yea 🙂) good luck

The only thing I can say is to not panic if you get it.

I got it and panic'ed for a minute or two because of all the stuff I read about on here. But then I calmed down and got back to work and did fine.

Just keep moving through the questions answering what you can and guessing and marking the rest. Search and destroy is key. Save the tone questions for the end after you have a good grasp of the passage. It is doable.

Go through it once and answer what you can, then go back and do the other two passages and make sure you are solid on those, then go back and finish the piano.

Thats if you even get this passage. Theres what 4 or 5 DAT forms going around? The odds are like 20% that you will even get this passage.

Relax.

Yes, I agree with the poster above me. I had the piano passage too and I personally think it would be a waste of time to research pianos, tones, etc. What you need to know is in the passage. It's just long. I used the search and destroy method and was able to get through it. I think it's hyped a lot and wasn't as hard as people made it out to be, in my opinion. But yea, don't stress you may not even get it. And if you do, take a breath and read to retain =)

yea i agree with the two above. i do not think researching how a piano works would be a good idea. Because first off, lets be honest, your heart is going to skip a beat if you get it. Its a tough passage no doubt but then as your reading and you start to realize that NOTHING you researched is on here , then that could lead to more panicking. People do very well on this passage and others and i have not heard of ONE person saying " i researched how a piano worked and got good scores." not one. I really think search and destroy is the way to go. It is tested and has worked for most of the poeple that have used it. One guy even got a better RC than most i have seen here and he said 1) he used S&D and 2) english is his second language !!! Just go into the test like you know u are giong to beat it down and you will.:xf:

"What is this Piano passage about. Is it technical, does it go into wave function of sound?"

WTF man? Answering this question would be CHEATING, its as simple as that. Stop fishing for answers. It would be completely unethical and unfair to those of us that have taken the exam. Why are people actually answering this person?!?!

Thanks every one for your mental supports. I have been so nervous about this, I could not even sleep last night and thinking how am I going to drive back home if I mess up my exam. Taking a test in September, I won't even have a chance to retake for this cycle.
But thanks every one, you have calmed my nerves down a bit.

Well it's not about that...Piano passage was hard for me only b/c questions were not as answerable again for me((I don't even know if that's word lol)) as they were for other two passage. Well I am not asking for straight forward questions either but at least something that all LEVEL including ESL students can answer even going through passage fast. But instead its more about what's true and false and two different questions in each question. What kind of passage is this and such questions are little hard when there is not time to read the whole passage for slow readers like us. and that person you are talking about using S&D method might not have find all answers and guessed on few but luckily he guessed them right. You never know if he did find the answers or he guessed 😛
