I have an interview tomorrow at one of my top choice schools. Unfortunately, I woke up this morning with one of my eyes crusted shut thanks to conjunctivitis. On top of this, I've had a nasty cold (coughing, stuffed up, sneezing every few minutes) for the past few days.

Should I just go ahead to the interview, or try to reschedule?

Thanks.

I don't know, normally I'd say go to the interview, but pink eye is one of those things that's so obvious and contagious; I'm not sure the interviewer would appreciate you exposing him/her. If it were me, I'd call and explain the situation and ask the admission office what you should do.

visine!!!!! do you realize HOW SET BACK you would be if you have to reschedule!! especially for rolling schools

Falling a bit behind in the rolling admissions process is a hell of a lot better than dooming yourself to a poor interview. I wouldn't appreciate someone coming to an interview with me if he was contagious.

first off, is it a rolling school? either way, tomorrow morning, i woul;d wake up, call my premed adviser and ask her, then call the admissions office and ask them, and then set up a doc appt... im so sorry this happened to you...

I'd try to email the director of admissions and ask what they would prefer; I'd explain that you feel like you are fit to be interviewed, but would understand if they would prefer that you stay away due to the contagious nature of the disease, and then just do whatever they tell you to. I say email now, since if it's a morning interview, it would be too late to call tomorrow morning.

Thanks for all of the responses. It's at Washington U in St. Louis, so it is a rolling admissions school. Unfortunately, I can't get a hold of their office or my premed adviser today. I've emailed my "medbuddy" to ask for his advice and plan on emailing the Dean to see what he says. It's about a 5 hour drive to WashU from where I live now, so here's to hoping I hear something back by 2pm or so...

wear an eye patch. arrrrrr i are a pirate
hey! thats an awesome idea!! get an eye patch and if the interviewer asks, just say you got a bit of an infection and need to keep the area clean...

....o god, karma's gonna break me off with a new one, isn't it ?

Reschedule. I would have concerns about someone who would expose a health care professional and fellow applicants to a very contagious disease when a reschedule is an option.
Exactly. Even if the interview went well, I would mark off points for the fact that you didn't have the common sense to not expose a large group of your potential peers to a relatively highly contagious disease.

Did someone fart on your pillow last night or something?

Yeah, I'm always amazed how more things like this don't happen.

Anyway, really sorry that happened to you! I would definately re-schedule the appointment. I'm starting to come down with a cold or something, and I have an interview on Thursday, so I'm hoping it doesn't get too much worse. Good luck with it!

Well, at least you'll be memorable...
