Pitt Replys

Looks like we're all nervously biting our nails, eh guys? Best of luck to all that are waiting. I think Pitt would be extremely lucky to have any of the sdn'ers on this thread.

Hi, All

The top five musical pieces I'm using to ease my nerves about this wait for Pitt:

1. Coldplay, Sparks

2. Trance Nation, Breathe

3. Samuel Barber, Adagio for Strings

4. U2, The Sweetest Thing

5. Radiohead, How to Dissapear Completely

What are your top five?

Oh my gosh, I think we are all losing it

It's really funny, but I didn't think other ppl loved pitt as much as i did when i interviewed...it's nice to know that so many ppl are as crazy to hear back...

this waiting is driving me insane...and making me replay my interview over and over and over again in my head...

the song that best describes my feelings about pitt would be the late-80's top 40 classic "I Touch Myself", performed by the ineffable belinda carlisle. seriously, i really want to go to pitt.

whoa, i'm pretty sure i touch myself was the divynals, not belinda.

i think belinda carlisle covered it at some point. i didn't know who sang the song, so i put some of the lyrics into yahoo, and the first thing i got was a belinda carlisle lyrics sheet. see if i ever try to exaggerate again.

Has anyone recieved a recent Pitt interview invite this week? It seems like my chances are getting slimer each....I wonder why they haven't just rejected me yet. Haven't they already sent out massive rounds of post-secondary rejections? Anybody else in my boat?

Okay, so I just called Pitt again, and a woman at the admissions office said that they are trying to get the letters sent out today, but they might possibly go out as late as Monday or Tuesday. I asked if any had already been sent out, and she said no. So, I'm not sure if the rumor floating around that letters have already been sent is true, but at least according to the information I got, nothing has been sent yet.... 🙁

Here's to more waiting! Cheers! 😀 🙁 😕

quideam...thanks for the update. I hope we all get good news very soon. I'm really sick of this wait! Every time I put it out of my mind, I get on SDN and I'm reminded again!

Argh...all of this makes me wonder why schools aren't more conservative with their dates. Pitt should have just said decisions will be out by March 10. Then, if they come out earlier, everyone is happy. This way the admissions office doesn't have to answer so many phone calls after March 1 from people wondering when decisions will arive.

I am waiting as well. No word from Pitt. I guess there's still a little hope since they interview into March (?), but I assume that it would probably be for a waitlist spot.

Is the amount of time it takes you to get an interview invitation indicative of your acceptance chances post-interview? Pitt took about 3 months to send me an invitation, I interviewed in January, and I am waiting for a decision like the rest of you. However, after reading the last post, I'm wondering if it was just an interview for a waitlist spot.

Good luck everyone!

I've got an interview set for Monday so I"ll find out whether its for a waitlist spot or what the deal is.

Sorry, I didn't phrase myself well. Since Pitt is non-rolling, when you interview shouldn't matter as far as your chances for acceptance are concerned. I was just thinking that after they start sending out their decisions (which is occurring now), if Pitt is indeed still interviewing, those folks who interview after the decisions are sent may be interviewing for the waitlist. Sorry to confuse you turk. 🙂 And thanks Quickread.

man, this is a painful wait. i've been dealing w/ this and duke. duke's even worse b/c some pple have already gotten acceptances (although it seems these were just the "superstars," nonetheless, this sucks.

Oh man! And I already told my buddy that they were mailed yesterday . . . this is killing me!

+pissed+

Oh and linus, you are so right! Why don't they just give themselves an extra buffer week. Nobody is expecting the letters to be ahead of schedule so there would be absolutely no stressing out about when they are going to arrive, not to mention taking a load off the staff fielding calls.

Sean
Again to reiterate: +pissed+

i interviewed at pitt last monday, and they said that we had the same likelihood of being accepted as people who interviewed on the first day.

This sucks...I too called them today and asked them when decisions will go out...and the lady said, "either today or monday or maybe tuesday." this waiting sucks....

and i found out that second look weekend is april 16-17. do most ppl go to that? what do you do on second look weekends?

I was in the admissions office on Friday and they were stuffing the evelopes. A friend of mine who is in charge of student interviews said they were going out on Thursday, but that apparently didn't happen. Admissions said that they hoped to have them out that day (Friday), but it could take longer. Also, the letters will go through the slow university mail system as someone else pointed out, so I wouldn't expect the letters to arrive for another 7-10 days. You've waited this long...

thanks for the update, doc oct. do you (or anyone else) know when the student interviewers will get their lists? to pitt med students, please encourage your classmates to do those emails so those people that are gonna get good news get it as soon as can be.

I was told (by the same person who said the letters were going out on Thurs) that we would have the lists Monday or Tuesday.

is Pitt's second look weekend paid for by the school (as in do they pay for us to fly to Pittsburgh and put us up in some type of housing for the weekend?)

The travel expenses aren't paid for, but you will be housed with a student (usually a first year, since the second years will be studying for boards by then). The whole thing is pretty much run by the first years.

just curious...about how many of the student interviewers email their students who were accepted? also, could you please let us know when you get the list of accepted students? thanks! that way we know when we can expect something....

bump....these next couple days could be it!

I think the majority of people will email, but they might not do it right away - it will pretty much depend on what time and what day they put the notices in the mailboxes. Some people don't check their mail daily, and most people leave school right after a test, so if they put the notices in the mailboxes in the afternoon, you might not hear for a day or two... So just don't worry if you don't get an email.

it would be better if we didn't have to worry about the email thing. now i've got to worry and stress about that too.

I know exactly what you mean. Once the first post appears on here that someone received an e-mail I'm going to go crazy checking my inbox.

yup, and every hour that passes, i'll feel like my chances are going down.

Agreed.... i've been losing sleep over all of this... 🙁 Well, the wait is almost up at least!

And every time this thread is updated, my heart stops beating. Seriously, all this waiting is killing me!

I have a strong feeling that tomorrow will be the day. Anyone else catching the same vibe?

I had that vibe last week  . Might as well let it carry over into this week though. I hope this waiting ends soon....4 months is WAY too long to keep us in suspense. Good luck to you all.

Just for the later interviewees, decisions have only been made for people who interviewed before mid-Jan. Late jan. and feb interviewees have not been reviewed for this first batch. Damn.

just wondering if anyone else's status page has been stagnant since 2/26. that's the last time mine was updated. from the discussion thus far it does seem like it matters. anyway, perhaps we'll start hearing stuff soon which would really make for a great spring break.

What discussion are you talking about? I didn't think Pitt's status page would show results?

i called the office today, turns out the letters were sent today. oh well. as for the status page, they said no change would be made to it.

letters have been sent? why the "oh well" then?

Oh well because we thought they may have been sent out at the end of last week. Hopefully most of us will know before spring break.

If they sent the letters out already, couldn't they at least let applicants know what their status is over the phone?

tpf

I don't think they will give decisions over the phone. If they would do that then the previous poster who called would have surely known their status. Also, if they offered this, can you imagine how many phone calls they would be getting this week?

<-- going nuts with worry!!

So if they sent the letters out today, when should we expect to get them? I'm in NJ - do you think that expecting the letter by Wed is reasonable?

I think Wed might be the earliest, but I would start to get antsy for something on Thurs or Friday. But what do I know? That is assuming that the Pitt mail service has to play around with the letters for a little while before getting it to the USPS. My friend who works at Pitt says that the mail system is not too shabby so maybe you will get it on Wed?

Anyway, I am in Pittsburgh . . so I will let all of you peeps know when it gets here and then it's probably a matter of 1-2 extra days depending where you are. Unless I don't get anything this week! Does anyone know if this bundle will include rejections and waitlists as well as acceptances? That will stink if we get nothing and have to wait some more!

first year student interviewers were notified today of their interviewees who were accepted so that they could email them before the letters arrive. not that they will all necessarily do that, but you could hear from your interviewer soon

Thanks for the info. Although I think that may make some of us even more nervous, it's nice to know.
