Long time lurker here but I need advice so I made an account. I'm so excited that I got 2 acceptances to both Temple and Pittsburgh and feel so lucky that I even get to make the choice. But that's where I need help.

Pittsburgh is cheaper and will have a smaller class size, which might be nice. But when I visited Temple, I loved the environment and just saw myself there. It seems like they really thrive in teaching clinical skills too, maybe moreso than Pitt. I have family in both cities who I could stay with so that's a tie.

But I guess I'm just curious if I should be in the "always go with the cheaper school" camp or the "go for A+ clinical and where you really see yourself." ugh, first world problems...

If Pitt is cheaper than temple by 45k or more, then I would go to Pitt. Otherwise, I'd go to Temple. I think in terms of quality Temple is much better. Philly >>> Pitt in terms of city, from what I gather. Really wish I could be in your predicament but I have yet to hear a peep from both of these schools. 🙁

Pittsburgh. Smaller class size. Strong research. Great specialist program match rate.

And it's cheaper.

I think clinically, they are both solid.

Yeah I hear you. Thanks for the advice. And I'm sure you'll get something, got my fingers crossed for you!

You're right, I didn't mean to put down Pitt's clinical or anything. I just know that Temple's clinical requirements in order to graduate really prep you in comparison to a lot of other schools. Thanks for the tip though.

Pittsburgh really emphasized that they have one of the higher board pass rates in the country. That might be something to consider...

Pitt all the way.

Have you ever been to the area of Philly where Temple is located ?? There are third world countries with better living standards than north Philly, home of the dental/medical/hospital campuses. I did not even bother applying to Temple specifically for this reason.

I'd choose the cheaper school. Also factor in cost of living differences since that is also a huge part of the expense correlated with attending a certain school.

I haven't been to temple but during my pitt interview we had a chance to talk to the current students there without any of the faculty/staff being around. When we asked about how they would feel practicing right out of school as a GP they all said they will do either AEGD or GPR since they don't feel they were adequately prepared. However, pitt has a very high specialization acceptance rate (>50%). I heard temple offers an extremely comprehensive and solid clinical curriculum (haven't been there myself). I would say if you definitely know you want to specialize, go to pitt. If you want to practice as a GP, go to temple (assuming what i heard was correct).

In my opinion, pittsburgh is a village with towers. The downtown and the city can be very boring without a car. Public transportation is horrible. Heck, horrible is not enough to describe how dumb the public transportation is.
